Our Fe 13 hurlers had a blitz on Saturday 14th in Douglas.
It was to be a challenging day as we were in a group with Douglas, St Finbarrs, Naas and Mallow. Winning in our first match by the smallest of margins over a stron St Finbarrs team set us up for a good run at the visitors from Co Kildare. We overcame Naas with a good few points to spare and then came the tough task of playing Douglas in their own back yard. The tow games we played told a bit on our lads against the hosts and we came out the wrong side of the result for the third game. We had a quick chat with the lads after we looked at the score board and said that if they dug deep and won the last game in our group then we could make the final,
The lads did as we asked and went out and did the Magpies proud by overcomming Mallow with a nice margin to spare once again.
We had made the final and we had to fly the flag for Cork now as our opponents in the final were a strong Kilkenny side from Callan. We were in with a shout but the task was too much as has been the case with lots of teams facing the Cats over the last while.
The team management would like to thank our hosts Douglas as the day was run very well and the club members were there to cater for us with food, drinks, Referees, Stewards and great Craic.
We would also like to thank the panel of players who travelled. They really did our Club proud. It was a great start to the weekend which saw our Senior hurlers winning in the Park against Na Pairsaigh in the Championship.
We hope to build on this good day in Douglas and bring the confidence boost to our Fe 14D Eas Cork Football final which will see many of the same players turning out for the Magpies.
