Fé6

On Saturday last Midleton Fé6 welcomed Douglas Fé6 to Clonmult Memorial Park for the first hurling match for the youngest Magpies. With a wet start early Saturday morning, an early pitch inspection was required but luckily for all involved it was decided to proceed with this much anticipated match. With over 30 confirmed Magpies togging out for their first match and over 50 visiting Douglas players, the groups were divided into 5-a-side teams to give all players adequate game time with lots of opportunities for action. There was plenty of fantastic hurling from the Midleton lads in all the matches, displaying some of the skills that they have been practicing over the last few months. Thanks to all the parents and families who came to support on Saturday – it was very much appreciated by all involved. Thanks also to Douglas for a very sporting and enjoyable series of games. There will be no training next Saturday due to the upcoming National Fé14 Féile competition taking place so we will be back training on Saturday June 15th at 10am-11am. Remember to keep practicing at home!!

Fé7

On Saturday morning our Lads Travelled to Togher to play St Finbarrs GAA.There was 25 young Magpies made the trip and we played four Teams and each Team played four games over the hour.In breezy but good conditions all four Teams played exceptionally well with some fine scores, work rate and most importantly Team Play throughout. There was a lot of satisfaction on our behalf as Coaches.

Well Done to all involved and special Thanks to all the parents who were able to make the trip on a bank holiday weekend.

We will continue to do Hurling Training every Saturday morning 10-11am and hope to play a Hurling Blitz by the end of this month.

The Fé11 team would like to express their deepest sympathies to our Coach Ger Spillane on the recent passing of his mother Bridget Spillane. May she Rest in Peace.

Douglas on Monday evening in Midleton was our latest outing in the hurling league. On fine evening conditions were perfect for hurling, if a little cold. We began with intent, Matthew Gregory getting us off the mark with a well taken point from play, this was quickly followed by a goal from Callum O’Brien who was tormenting the Douglas defence showing great footwork and skill. A mix up in our full backline saw us concede a goal but Callum Mc Sweeney fired over a point to settle us. The visitors responded again and after some impressive attacking play they goaled. Our lads were now under a bit of pressure as we had the advantage of a stiff breeze but up stepped another Callum, this time Callum Deegan broke through the Douglas defenders to raise a green flag. This score inspired us, Conor Morley was having a super game at midfield, John Paul Mc Manus was excellent at centre back, Senan Gleeson and Adam O’Connor were also clearing a huge amount of ball. With this dominance it was inevitable that we would score, a long ball from Jack Foley broke inside the Douglas rearguard, Gearoid Cashman showed fantastic reactions and ingenuity to put the ball in the net, Jack Foley then put over a free to leave the halftime score Midleton 3-03 Douglas 2-0. The second half began with Douglas really taking the game to us. They pointed a free and quickly followed this with a point from play. The match was being played at a fierce pace and both teams were giving their all. Odhran Dennigen and Sean McSharry were having super games, Callum O’Brien was continuing his fine form from the first half, the game was there for the taking we badly needed a score, Jack Foley stepped up to a free, his long delivery somehow found its way to the net, this was the score we needed. In a frantic last ten minutes Douglas continued to push us all the way firing over two more points from play but we continued to defend resolutely Yohannis Mehigan was giving nothing away in what was a very impressive defence and we held out for the win. Final score: Midleton 4-03 Douglas 2-04. Well done lads, our league form is very encouraging... keep up the good work. We take on the Glen away in P1 Hurling on Bank Holiday Monday at 4.30pm followed by C 3 Hurling away to Bandon on Tuesday at 7.30 pm.

Fé14

Last Wednesday evening we travelled to Riverstown to play Sars in the Premier 1 hurling league. Sars would always have been getting the better of  us over the years although the margin of victory was certainly reducing in our recent games. In the dressing room you could sense the players determination to perform well and represent their club as best they could. From the throw in Midleton were quick to settle and were by far the better team over the opening 20 minutes of the half. Firmly in control in midfield Niall Lang and Cian Lambe worked very well and our two corner backs of Dara Higgins and Adam Collins held their men at bay. Our half back line of Carthaig Cronin, Tagdh o leary and Rory Lester were allowing nothing pass. Zachs puck outs were deadly accurate allowing our fowards put huge pressure on sars backs. Niall and Evan McGrath both struck for a goal each in that first half backed up by points from Daragh fitz, Niall and Evan.At half time we led 2-6 to

1-5. The lads knew they had hurled well and should have been further ahead. A relaxed team talk followed when the lads were asked to have confidence in themselves for the second half. With the wind now strengthening in sars favour they were the team to start all guns blazing scoring 1 3 in the first 10 minutes. However we settled once again, Tagdh Bohan caught a lot of ball and helped by his half forward line of Oscar Brennan, who carried a lot of ball into the danger area, and Dara Scanlon, our captain on the night, who worked his socks off, we began to draw fouls from sars. Daragh converted these frees to keep us always within striking distance. Eoin Higgins dropped to the 40 to help out and create space inside. Eoins strength and height was invaluable over that hard fought second half. With 10 minutes left Daniel Garde was introduced in the inside line to cause more disruption and so it proved to be the case creating an opportunity for Evan McGrath to put over the final score of the game.

Sars 2-11 Midleton 2-11.

Panel Zach Smith, Dara Higgins, Alex Moloney, Adam Collins, Carthaig Cronin, Tagdh o leary, Rory Lester, Niall Lang, Cian Lambe, Oscar Brennan, Dara Scanlon, Tagdh Bohan, Daragh fitz, Eoin Higgins, Evan McGrath, Tiernan o Connell, Thomas Dunlea,Alex Howard and Daniel Garde .

On a blustery Sunday afternoon our C3 team had a home game against a very fancied Douglas side. Playing with the wind in the first half saw our lads off to a poor start down 2 goals in the first five minutes. However our lads rallied with a Zach Smith point from a free and two great goals from our big Centre forward Eoin Higgins saw the score line at halftime 2-1 a piece. The second half started similar to the first with Douglas putting the sliotar in the midleton net within two minutes of the whistle. It was then this game came to life with excellent defending from Josh Campbell Sean cronin Darragh Higgins and Thomas o Connor saw a better supply of ball into the midleton forwards. Evan Mcgrath knocked over a lovely point followed by some very good free taking from tadgh Bohane leaving him with a final tally of 1-3. Cian Lambe was working tirelessly in the middle of the field with Darragh Aherne defending well. When Samuel morrisey put the ball in the Douglas net it brought the game down to the wire. After a nervous few minutes midleton came out on the right side winning on a score line of 4-5 to 4-3. Well done to all the lads a super display from everyone. The mentors would like to thank all the parents and supporters on the day. U8

Midleton Vs Carrigtwohill

Despite the dark clouds threatening rain and strong winds, on Monday 27th May the U8 girls football team travelled away to take on Carrigtuohill in a friendly challenge game. Thanks to a great turnout we had enough players for two teams. The girls played two matches with 10-minutes aside. Considering this was the first match played against another team for many of the players the girls played very well. Every player worked hard running, passing the ball, and scoring and were courageous against an equally strong team.

Thank you also to the parents for all the encouragement and support.

The players were: Sara Cahill, Hazel O’Connor, Amber Cotter, Rhona Fenton, Ciara Finn, Lucy Hynes, Meabh McCormick, Ruby Byrne, Callie O Brien, Holly Flynn, Zoe Murphy, Ella Murphy, Nessa Cronin, Ava Mc Sweeney, Molly Lenihan, Moya Dennigan, Cara Walsh, Abi Pyne, Penny Murphy, Sorcha O’Driscoll, Aisling Foley, Rebecca Moloney, Cara O’Connor.

U12

On Sunday evening our U12 girls welcomed Inch Rovers to Clonmult Park for another League game. On a blustery evening we opted to play against the win in the first half. Some great Football was played by both teams and they finished level at half time. We were slow to start in the second half but once we settled we made the most of the wind advantage and capitalised on this. We went on to win on a score of Midleton 4-05  Inch Rovers 1-01.

Team: Cara Pyne, Rebecca Ryan, Kate Saunderson, Cara Foley, Sorcha Cronin, Ciara McGrath, Alannah Magan, Kate O Sullivan, Lily Kelly, Hannah O Brien, Alyx Cahill, Roisin McManus, Cait O Leary Hayes, Aine Ryan, Emma Fitzgerald, Keelan Fraser, Shelia O Leary  Hayes, Robyn Keating, Oonagh Lang, Rebecca Cronin, Leah Costigan, Faye Dunlea.

Our U16 , Minor and Junior Ladies will train on the main pitch under the watchful eye of Ephie Fitzgerald. Well done to Ephie who received the Lidl/Irish Daily Star Manager of the 2019 Ladies National Football League.

Camogie

Another busy week in Camogie. The U10’s were in action against Cobh last Sunday we ran two small sided games side by side to give the girls plenty of space with everyone getting lots of touches. Both the Cobh & Midleton girls displayed great skills with lots of lifting, hand passing & striking. Thanks to Cobh for inviting us down and to the parents for the great support. Next up for the girls is a trip to Killeagh on Wednesday evening.

The U14 Camogie team played their 3rd league match again last Sunday against a strong Aghabullogue on a beautiful sunny morning in the Ballinacurra GAA pitch.

Our opponents decided to play with the wind in the first half and came straight out of their traps at full speed and ran at the Midleton defence in waves during the early exchanges. Despite being under constant pressure in the first 15mins, Midleton were only 0-1 down and eventually the girls began to get to the pace of the game and find their scoring range and managed to carve out a half-time lead of 1-3 to 0-2 despite playing into a stiff win The second half saw Midleton dominate in the early exchanges and add a couple of goals to add to the advantage, however Aghaboullouge fought back gallantly and added a couple of late scores to leave the final score 3-6 to 0-4 to Midleton.

The match was a tough encounter but also gave us an opportunity to give some valuable pitch time to our younger U13 panel members ahead of the national Feile competition in addition to trying some girls in different locations.

This leaves us with 2 wins out of 3 ahead of our final league encounter against Watergrasshill before the Summer recess. Scorers for Midleton: Rachel Ryan 2-1, Emily Lamb 1-3 ,Emma O'Sullivan 0-1 ,Anna Sheehan 0-1 .

The U10's were in action against a strong Killeagh team on Wednesday last. The girls gave us an exhibition of camogie skills from striking to blocking hooking lifting and hand passing. Thanks to Killeagh for inviting us and we look forward to seeing you in Midleton for the return leg.  As always the parents were an immense support to the girls and a great evening of sport was had.

Next up for the girls is a trip to Fr O'Neill's next Tuesday evening. Up the magpies

U 9

Our U9 group also played in Killeagh. Thank you to Killeagh for hosting a very well organised game on the 29th of May in beautiful conditions. There was huge excitement for our U9’s girls First game of the season. Our budding stars showed up in great numbers and what great displays there was. The girls played with great spirit and got their first experience of rising and hitting the sliotar around while being cheered on by a big group of spectators. The girls really enjoyed the full experience of wearing their Midleton colours today. We were delighted today with the support of the families who brought their girls today and created such a great atmosphere with their support. A big well done to all the players, thanks to the coaches, The referee and our good neighbours Killeagh Camogie Club for hosting us for the game. We can’t wait for our next match – that’s where we see all the hours of practice at training paying off. Here’s to many more fun days like this !!!
