Fé8

Over the past few weeks we have participated in 2 Rebel Og hurling blitz’s. The first one a few weeks back was held in Carrigtwohill and the opposition included Carrig and Aghada. On Saturday last we made the short trip to Aghada where the opposition included St Catherine’s, Fr O Neills, Sars, Carrig and Aghada again. For both mornings we had over 30 young Magpies togged all of whom are improving, progressing and most importantly enjoying themselves. We will continue to training Thursdays at 7pm.

Fé12

On Saturday afternoon last we took on Douglas in the next round of the Premier 1 Hurling league. On a beautiful sunny day in Clonmult Memorial Park, the boys endured a tough day at the office. We started really well with a fabulous score from midfielder Nicky Coughlan. Soon after Douglas took control of proceedings and outscored us 1-09 to 0-1pt at the short whistle. This was despite the efforts of the impressive Conor Finn, Josh Hogan and the aforementioned Coughlan. The second half we competed a bit better and tried to stay with our opponents but to no avail. We had countless wides and just couldn’t get into the game. The boys were extremely disappointed with this uncharacteristic display, also as coaches left us with a bit of head scratching.  We will park it up and move on. Well done also to all the boys from the U12 group who took part in the Scaith na Scoil this week. With Ballintotis, Gaelscoil, Midleton CBS and Scartleigh NS all reaching the finals. Well done again to all involved.

Fe 13 Premier 1 v St Finbarrs

A fixture steeped in history Midleton V St Finbarrs in hurling last season we had a battle royale with the Barrs in Togher we had come out of that one with a narrow victory. Ideal weather conditions and a firm pitch at Clonmult Pairc set the scene for this encounter. We started with intent Peter Barrett got us off the mark with an excellent point from play, James McSweeney also pointed from play then Peter struck over two fine points from play to put us in a strong position after 10 mins. The Barrs responded well launching a series of attacks which our keeper Odhran Rabbitte dealt with assuredly displaying very good control and long deliveries never the less our opponents struck over three well taken points from play, the exchanges were keenly contested a long delivery from Eoghan Fraser to the edge of the square found Paddy Walsh, Paddy managed to get the ball to Fionn Kelly from 13 meters Fionn Struck for a very well taken goal. Then Darragh Egan hit a point quickly followed by a Daniel Garde point, good work from Daniel Garde saw Peter Barrett rattle the Barr’s net then Eoghan Fraser struck a neat point we seemed to be in a good position with minutes to go in the first half but the Barrs hit 1.02 in rapid succession to put them right back in the game. Peter finished the scoring with another well taken point to leave the half time score Midleton 2.08 St Finbarrs 1.05. The second half saw the Barr’s out of the blocks quickly they struck an early goal and the game burst into life. With Thomas Dunlea and James McSweeney now operating in mid field we began to control the game, James pointed from play the Barrs responded with another point. Three points from James two from frees and one from play put some distance between the teams. Our defenders centre back Carthaigh Cronin, full back Josh Carey, Adam O Connor and Conor Williams were ensuring any Barrs attacks were nullified. Darragh Egan then struck for a goal two more points from James one from play one from a free had now put us well in control. Thomas then pointed from play before the impressive Darragh Egan goaled again. Jack Foley then pointed a free to conclude what was an impressive team performance. Final score Midleton 4.16, St Finbarrs 2.06. Our next outing is v Douglas in hurling at home on Monday 27th.

On Saturday next Thomas Dunlea plays with the Cork Primary Games team during the interval at the Cork V Waterford SHC match in Pairc Úi Chaoimh. This is a great honour for Thomas and his family and all his team mates wish him the best of luck, no doubt many will be there in the stands supporting him.

Sciath na Scoil; Well done to all our players involved in Sciath na Scol finals this week , the CBS lads Callum O’Brien, Daniel Garde, Conor Morley, Callum Deegan, Matthew Gregory and Yohannis Mehigan who had a fine win. Saleen NS’s Eoghan Fraser and Gaelscoil’s Thomas Dunlea, Daragh Egan, Sennan Gleeson, Paddy Walsh, Odhran Dennigan, Ben Fitzpatrick, Carthaigh Cronin, John Paul Mc Manus, Callum McSweeney, Peter Barrett, James McSweeney, Adam O’Connor, Jack O Connell, Kieran Connolly, and Sean McSharry. To Fionn Kelly who won with Scoil Na nÓg. Well done to Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corran cailíní who had an impressive win in their final on Thursday.

Fé14

On Monday last, the 20th we travelled to ovens to play Eire Og in football. On a lovely evening for football we started very strongly with a well taken goal from Daragh fitz followed by a point from Evan McGrath. Eire og assisted by a breeze then settled and got 2 goals and a point of their own. However it was Midleton who finished out the half strongly and with our half back line of Tagdh Bohan, Rory Lester and Alex Moloney pressing and putting enormous pressure on Eire Og we got in for another goal from Cian Lambe followed by 3 more points, 1 from Oscar Brennan and 2 more from Daragh fitz. Half time Midleton 2 4, Eire Og 2-3. In the second half Midleton were completely dominant, Thomas O Connor pounced for a wonderful goal, Fitz added another point before our hard working full forward, Dara Scanlon got his goal. Niall Lang added another point followed by 2 more from Alex Moloney who carried the ball into the danger area at every opportunity. Another goal with 10 minutes still to play put this game firmly out of reach or Eire Og. During this opening 20 minutes of the second half Midleton held Eire Og to a solitary point thanks mainly to fantastic work from our full back line of Adam Collins, Darragh Ahern and Cormac MacAongusa. Alex Howard was realible in goal as always. Zack Smith, Oscar Brennan, Evan McGrath and Eoin Higgins covered every inch of the pitch to ensure plenty of ball was delivered to the forward line. Well done to all our lads involved on their work rate. Many thanks to all those who supported the team.

Davy Hogan Street Leagues

The final day of the 2019 Midleton Street League Davy Hogan competition took place on Saturday at Clonmult Park. All teams, coaches & parents gathered at Midleton Farmers Market on Saturday morning with excitement and some nerves in the air. All players wearing the black and white then proudly marched behind piper Olan McCarthy to the club for a 10am throw in. All 6 teams played their last group game with a place in the final still up for grabs. After some entertaining hurling the honour of a place in the final went to the  Owenacurra team, captained by Max Murphy, and the Forkums team captained by Senan Carroll. In what turned out to be a very exciting final with some fantastic hurling on both sides, it was Forkums who emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins on a score of 2-03 to 1-05. Sciath Na Scoil

Midleton Cbs took on North Mon on Monday 20th May in Pairc ui Rinn for the Sciath na Scoil Final winning 7-9 to 1-2 . Captain was Adam Lee and vice captain Daniel Garde. Scoring didn’t reflect the match as both teams battled very hard to claim the title. A great 40 minutes of hurling!

Gaelscoil Mhainistir Na Corann reached the Sciath Na Scol for the third year in a row which was played last Thursday in Páirc Uí Rinn V Scoil Na nÓg. The girls came out with a bang scoring a goal in the first couple of minutes and this set the tone for the rest of the match.

From number one to number fifteen, every girl battled and fought hard throughout. The girls didn’t want to go away without a win after narrow defeats in the last two Sciath Na Scol finals. Some great defending, hard work in midfield and skillful forwards resulted in a well deserved win for GSMNC. Midleton Camogie Club was well represented with over 20 girls on the panel and their club is very proud of each and every one of them.

Final Score 3-4 to 1-0

Thanks also to Cliodna Casey from Dungourney for refereeing today and to Jay Keating for the photos.

Our U16 made the journey to Ballyhea Tuesday evening for the 3rd round of the U 16 league. It was a game of two half’s but leaving too much work to be done in the second half we came up short on the night. Well done to all involved and thanks to Ballyhea for the much welcomed refreshments after the match.

Also on Tuesday evening Our U12 girls lined out against Castlelyons , in what was another strong performance from our ever improving team. Both teams put on a great display of skills with hurley and ball with Midleton just coming out on top. A big thanks to all who came along and cheered on both sets of players who all walked off together with smiles on their faces.

Our Minor team replayed Grenagh in the County Final on Friday night at Cork Camogie grounds at Castle Road. Unfortunately Grenagh proved too strong for us and it wasn’t to be our night with Grenagh coming out on top. It was a huge achievement for our girls to reach the final as it’s our first year fielding a Minor team so well done to all involved.

Finally huge congratulations to Lucy Wallace on winning the Munster Camogie Championship Final on Saturday 25th May. Cork retained their title after defeating Kerry on a score line of Cork 2-09 to Kerry 1-04.
