Fé 11

On Saturday we travelled to Ballincollig to play them in the latest set of Rebel Og games. We had 25 players with a number of our regulars unable to line out with sickness and injuries. We hope to have them back available again next week. We played the local lads in two very good close and very sporting games of football, enjoyed by a great turn out of parents also. It was a lovely sunny afternoon but with a significant breeze down the field. Ballincollig allowed us to play with the aid of the wind in the 1st half's and the lads got into their stride quickly with fine football skills and teamwork and lead both games at the short break. It was a case batten down the hatches and hold out which the lads did, working very hard against the wind and very good to see. Well done to all and to the captains on the day Bradley O'Brien and Jack Walsh.

Fé 13

Our footballers travelled to Aghada on Wednesday night in what was a very entertaining hour of football. After a ding dong battle our lads eventually came out on top by a single score, this was a very useful outing getting valuable game time for our players. Well done to all the lads who travelled on the night. Football takes a back seat for the next couple of weeks as the hurling league swings in to action.

Premier 1 Hurling

Ballyanly was the venue on Saturday last for our first competitive outing of the year. Inniscarra are a team we have traditionally struggled to get to grips with but we were confident of a good performance nonetheless. The pitch was in an excellent condition, a stiff breeze drew down the field right to left, having lost the toss we faced into this breeze for the first half. Inniscarra started well knocking over 3 points from play before a fine Paddy Walsh point got us on the score board. Our half back line of Callum McSweeney, Cathraigh Cronin and Conor Williams were doing their best to stem the tide behind them Adam O Connor, Josh Carey (playing his first competitive hurling match) and Ben Fitzpatrick were also under pressure but performing admirably putting in numerous hooks and blocks it what was proving to be a very physical battle. Inniscarra then landed a monster point from play quickly followed by a goal but we responded well with points from the impressive Peter Barrett and the dangerous Daniel Garde, our hosts hit back with a point from play and a pointed free quickly followed by an opportunistic goal but our lads dug in playing into what was now a very strong wind Eoghan Fraser swung over a lovely point from play quickly followed by a Thomas Dunlea free, saw us trailing at half time on a score line of Inniscarra 1.07 , Midleton 0.05. Even though we trailed by 8 points the lads had put in a huge effort against the wind and we were confident they could perform well in the second half. Thomas Dunlea opened the scoring for us in the second half getting a fine point from play this was quickly followed by a Peter Barrett free after Peter had been fouled himself. At this early stage it was obvious that our lads were going to give everything they had to try and get a result with Eoghan Fraser and James McSweeney taking an iron grip in midfield man of the match Callum McSweeney giving an outstand performance at wingback winning a great ball in the air and soloing 40 meters before delivering the ball to Thomas who split the posts. We then got the all important goal from Peter this saw us take the lead for the first time. Peter then pointed another free, the move of paddy Walsh to centre forward was proving invaluable as Paddy made life extremely difficult for the Inniscarra centre back with Daragh Egan and Conor Morley also putting in a huge shift. We were now on the front foot and a goal from Daniel Garde was met with a huge roar from our supporters at this stage we were repelling everything Inniscarra were throwing at us Josh Hogan in goals was calmness personified we pushed forward and put the foot to the floor as the game entered the last 15 mins the now full forward line of Daniel Garde, Odhran Dennigan and Jack Foley were making life extremely difficult for the Inniscarra rearguard. John Paul McManus and Cathraigh Cronin were defending stoutly Peter Barrett then knocked over two points one from play one from a free Midfielders Eoghan and James both pointed from play Thomas added another point to take his personal tally to 4 points, Eoghan then swung over another score an Inniscarra attack was then broken up by a hook and when the same player attempted to strike the ball he was blocked down this typified our performance on the day, the ref then blew the final whistle to leave us with a score line Midleton 2.15 Inniscarra2.07 This was a great start to our league campaign great credit to each and every player in what was a very impressive performance.

Panel: Josh Hogan, Adam O Connor, Josh Carey, Ben Fitzpatrick, Conor Williams (Cpt) Cathraigh Cronin, Callum McSweeney, Odhran Fraser, James McSweeney, Conor Morley, Daragh Egan, Peter Barrett, Daniel Garde, Paddy Walsh, Thomas Dunlea, John Paul McManus, Jack Foley, Odhran Dennigan.

Fé14 Feile Football

On Saturday Midleton Fé14 travelled to Na Piarsaigh for the Football Feile in what proved to be a great day. It was ideal conditions for football and even though we had lost a couple of players with injuries the lads put in a mighty performance on the day. Our first game was against Ballinora and we started brightly with points from Evan Mcgrath and Eoin Higgins. Evan got two quick goals which left the halftime score of 2-2 to 3-0. A quick goal at the start of the second half by Cormac Ryan saw us in the driving seat. However Ballinora rallied and got two more goals just on the stroke of full time leaving the final score of Midleton 3-2 to Ballinora 5-2.
Our second game was a must win game against Aghabollogue. Again the lads started strong with a goal from Zach Smith followed by another by Cian Lambe and the quick thinking Samuel Morrisey got another goal just before halftime time saw us lead 3-1 to 2 points. Aghabollogue came out fighting in the second half and got some fine points but our heads defended well and did not leak any goals. Alex Howard pulled off some wonderful saves to keep us in the game with the Magpies winning on a score line of 3-2 to 0-7.
Our third and final game was a winner takes all against the hosts Na Piarsaigh. The first half was a disappointing performance from our lads with Na Piarsaigh very strong all over the field and they opened up a huge lead of 4 goals. A well struck penalty from full forward Darragh Scanlon saw the halftime score of 4-2 to 1-0. We had a lot to do in the second half and we started brightly with a goal from Thomas O Connor followed by a point from Cian Lambe but that was as good as it got for Midleton with the final score at Na Piarsaigh 5-3 Midleton 2-1. Overall the lads played some fantastic football and a great day out was had by all. The Mentors would like to thank all the Parents and Families for supporting the lads on the day. Panel as follows Alex Howard Darragh Aherne tadgh Bohane Sean Cronin Darragh Higgins Alex Moloney Rory Lester Tadhg o Leary Darragh Fitzgerald Zach Smith Evan Mcgrath Cian Lambe Samuel morrisey Darragh Scanlon Eoin Higgins Oscar Brennan Cormac Ryan Thomas O Connor Adam Collins Niall Lang.

Fé14

It was a busy week for our U14 Ladies. On Thursday last they had a very comprehensive win over Watergrasshill in the A League. Many Thanks to Ballinacurra for the use of their pitch. On Sunday morning we travelled to Whitechurch. A strong breeze aided us in the first-half and the girls took full advantage. We lead 5-06 to no score at half time. Rockbán came out very strong in the 2nd half but all the girls defended brilliantly, largely restricting Rockbán to points. Midleton weathered the storm and ensured there would be no comeback by notching up 2-02 of our own in the 2nd half. All-in-all, a brilliant display of team'work, great supporting play and resilient defending. We couldn't be happier with the display and result. Final score was Midleton 7-08, Rockbán 2-06.
