It was back to the small ball this week as we played our first hurling game of the year. Douglas were the opposition and we played nine very competitive games and got positive results in the majority of these.
We were very pleased with all our players, they battled for every ball and played some great hurling over the course of the games. We fielded three teams and all our players got plenty of touches and showed great skills.
We would like to thank all the parents who came to cheers our lads on.

Fé10

Douglas was the venue on Saturday morning for our Fe10’s first hurling Go Game of 2019. With conditions ideal for hurling our boys got in to their stride quickly and were soon showing some great enthusiasm and skills. The boys have been putting in great effort in training since the start of the year and were soon showing the benefits of their hard work, some great competitive spirit and scores once again on display. Over the course of the 9 games there was very little between ourselves and a very good Douglas selection. Our young Magpies have to be commended for the way they represented the club with their displays and also a thank you to the parents for their support and encouragement on the day. Thanks also to Mark Barry and his fellow Douglas GAA Coaches for the welcome on Saturday morning and for facilitating the games. Our focus turns to football next Saturday with a home game versus St Colman’s, throw in at 11:15.

Fé11

A short trip to Killeagh provided our first football outing of 2019 for the Fé11 Go Games where we had 36 boys all getting game time. All the lads performed admirably in the two matches. We then hosted Lisgoold and Kiltha Óg in the first of the Fé11 Go Games Hurling matches on Saturday afternoon in Midleton. There were 33 boys playing across three teams and all the lads showed great spirit and skill in some hard fought matches. We’re looking forward to more hurling and football in 2019. Training now switches to Wednesday nights- time will be confirmed by text.

Fé14

On Saturday evening the fe14s had a must win football game at home against Erin’s own. In what was perfect weather conditions for a football game it was certainly a game that lived up to expectation. The magpies started brightly with points from Zach Smith and Cian Lambe. Evan Mcgrath was making life difficult for the corner back and kicked a wonderful score ten minutes in. Erin’s Own responded kicking 4 scores of their own. Midleton’s midfield of Tadhg o Leary and Niall Lang were working tirelessly to keep a good supply of ball into the Midleton forwards. Two more scores from the boot of Zach Smith and Cian Lambe sent Midleton in halftime with a slender margin of 5 points to 4.

A stern talking at halftime and a slight readjustment of the team saw us start brightly in the opening minutes of the second half. A great goal by the on fire Evan Mcgrath followed quickly by a second goal by Evan saw Midleton lift the tempo and really took the game to Erin’s Own. Our backs really stepped up to the mark with Adam Collins, Rory Lester, Darragh Scanlon and the ever reliant Alex Moloney lifting it up to another level. Cian Lambe was causing wreck in the inside forward line and snuck in for another goal followed by another point. Mcgrath and Lambe were having a field day. Zach Smith struck another goal saw Midleton well on top at this stage. Eoin Higgins and Tadhg Bohane were working well to keep Erin’s Own at bay. To put the icing on the cake Thomas O Connor got a wonder goal on the full time whistle leaving the final score of Midleton 5-6 Erin’s Own 1-8. A huge thanks from the mentors to all the parents and siblings for there support on the night. Panel as follows Alex Howard, Darragh Scanlon, Adam Collins, Rory Lester, Eoin Higgins Alex Moloney, Tadgh Bohane, Niall Lang, Tadhg O Leary, Zach Smith, Evan Mcgrath, Oscar Brennan, Cian Lambe, Darragh Aherne, Darragh Fitzgerald, Sean Cronin, Darragh Higgins, Larry ward, Thomas o connor, Conor Williams, Cormac Ryan, Tiernan O Connell.

Camogie

The U14s travelled to Cobh on Wednesday evening 27th for a challenge match against Cobh under lights. The match was split into 3 x 20mins of action and we travelled with a large squad of 24 players. We were able to provide plenty of pitch time to all who travelled. It proved to be a very competitive encounter as the girls renewed old rivalries from U12 days and Midleton ran out eventual winners by 3-3 to to 3-0.

The U10’s had their first outing of the season away to Carrigtwohill on Saturday afternoon, 30th March. In perfect conditions the girls quickly shook off the cobwebs and displayed some great camogie skills. Well done to all of the girls involved and thanks to Carrigtwohill for hosting us.

Best wishes from all at Midleton Camogie Club to Vivienne Gleeson who played today with The Cork U16a Team in The Munster Final v Limerick.

Our Minor Match v Mallow was cancelled today due to unforeseen circumstances. Midleton will be awarded the points as the match will not be rescheduled. Details to follow on our next league game.
