On Saturday afternoon we played away in our first Football game of the year against Blarney. The game was played in Rathpeacon GAA pitch on a dry and sunny afternoon, although the pitch was very soft underfoot. We had the breeze in the first half with both teams getting off to a slow start. The score was a point to each team after fifteen minutes, with our point coming from Tadgh O’Leary Hayes. Blarney finished the first half the stronger of the two teams, scoring 1:03 without reply. We did almost pull a goal back just before the halftime whistle when Evan McGrath struck the post. At halftime we made a few positional changes. We started the second half stronger than we had been in the first half and we slowly pulled our way back into the game, our forward line worked tirelessly and won a lot of frees, which were dispatched by Mikey Finn. We also managed to pull a goal back through Mikey, but unfortunately, we were caught on the break a couple of times and Blarney kept the scoreboard ticking over in their favour and caught us with a couple of goals. The entire team kept working and never gave up and we scored a late point from Michael Rowe, but it just wasn’t our day. The players put in a great effort throughout and they can be very proud of their effort. It was our first game of the season, so it was great to be back out on the pitch. Our next game is in two weeks’ time. Final Score Midleton 1:06 Blarney 3.07.

Panel: Mikey Finn, Ben Kenneally, Tiarnan Roche, Michael Roe, Brian O’Connell, Fionn Dalton, Dara Scanlon, Tadgh O’Leary Hayes, Darragh Fitzgerald, Daniel Coffey, Rory Lister, David Greene, William Kavanagh, Cathal Beausang, Sean Fraser, Rian de Barra & Ben Keannally

Lismore was the venue on Saturday afternoon for the first hurling match of the year. On a beautiful spring day the lads took on Lismore in what turned out to be a very competitive match. With the pitch quiet soft, the lads adapted well to the tricky conditions. From the off we were competitive throughout the field, with some very good displays from Conor Finn , Mikey Pedley, Lochlann Stewart, Sean Crowley and Patrick O Dowd. We played some good hurling at times and we took some very good scores from play. While we came out on the wrong side of the score line, the way we battled as a team was very pleasing to see. Thanks to Lismore for hosting and providing well deserved refreshments afterwards.
