Midleton Hurling & Football, Ladies Football & Camogie Club NEWS

03 February, 2019

Allianz National League

Cork faced Wexford in round two of their league matches in Pairc Ui Chaoimh today.

Final Score was Cork 0-17, Wexford 1-18. Midleton’s Conor Lehane was on the panel for today.

Munster Fe 19C Hurling Semi Final

Colaiste an Phiarsaigh 2-8 Borrisokane 3-18.

Going into this game Colaiste were short 4 players from their quarter final win, due to injury & sickness. However in truth, from the start, there was only one team ever going to win this game as Borrisokane dominated from the word go. Colaiste did come into the game with goals immediately before and after half time to manage the deficit which was 2-8 to 1-5 at the short whistle.

There was only 3 points in it 5 minutes into the second half but then the Tipp lads took over. It was one w

ay traffic to the end as both sides emptied their benches.

Well done to the Colaiste team that included Midleton Players Christian, Fergus, Evan, Tim & Dan. They still have the Cork Fe19 B Hurling Semi Final V Kinsale to look forward to in the next few weeks.

Juvenile

Coaching

Saturday last saw 15 of our coaches complete an Award One coaching course. For the past two Fridays and Saturdays the coaches put  in 16 hours of tutorial and practice coaching education.  This award is the second stage of the GAA coaching qualification and prepares coaches for the youth player 12 and upwards. We now have Award One coaches at every level in the club with the ultimate aim of improving standards and knowledge,  this in turn enables  the coaches to deliver top class coaching and training to their respective group as the players continue their journey as young magpies. Thanks to the tutors Padraig O’Brien and Sean Crowley for their expertise and professional approach.  Well done to all the lads involved.

Gold Standard Coaching Award

For the 3rd year Midleton GAA have achieved the Gold Standard Coaching Award in the Rebel Óg benchmarking.  Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarking 2020 was designed to provide a template for best practice in coaching, promoting maximum participation and optimal playing standards in juvenile clubs. Clubs are evaluated  yearly  in the following areas :  minimal games requirement, coaching education, Child player coaching plan,  Youth Player Coaching Plan, Physical development programme, Primary School coaching, Post Primary schools liaison, club young referees, Mid-term and Cúl Camps, promoting  player participation in  Regional and County squad. Meeting these standards would not be possible without the hard work and cooperation between the Juvenile Committee and playing groups . This award puts us in an elite group of Cork Clubs who have achieved the gold standard award in coaching.

Fe13’s continue their physical development program on Monday nights in Midleton College and training Saturday mornings in St Coleman’s. Having done well in Premier 2 football last year we have been promoted to Premier 1 for the coming season, this will be a big challenge which I’m sure the lads will rise to. Our Football League programme starts at the last weekend of February. We will also compete in Premier1 and C3 hurling for the coming year with competition beginning early April. We look forward to the season ahead on a full pitch for the first time and with non restrictive playing rules.

Ladies Football

Fe14

Sunday last ,Midleton Fé 14 ladies travelled to Rathcormac for their first league game of the season v’s Bride Rovers. A fantastic exhibition of football was served up on a cold, wet and blustery Pyne's pitch. These young magpies gave us a thrilling display of skill and movement from start to finish. They showed some great defending, some great team play and team scores. Performances like this will ensure that this Fé 14 team will go far in the 2019 season. Hard work and determination proves that these young ladies are on the right road. The Super bowl has lot to live up to after the action packed game we were served up last Sunday.

The second half was much the same as the first with our girls playing with great determination and team work. We ran out convincing winners. Not a bad result for our first outing of 2019.
