Senior Hurling
Last Sunday afternoon in Pairc Ui Chaoimh our great run in the Championship became unstuck when we lost out to the reigning Champions Imokilly by 4-19 to 1-18 in the County Final played before a crowd of 10,000.
As the saying goes “goals wins games” and this certainly was the case. Having conceded a very early goal we fought back to within a few points and looked like taking the game to them only to concede a second, a goal from Patrick White reduced the deficit momentarily to three but they added further points to leave the half time score 2-11 to 1-09 in their favour.
We quickly reduced the deficit early in the second half to two points and the tide seemed to be turning in our favour but before we knew it they struck for a killer third goal, with no time for us to respond they worked a fourth goal which effectively finished the game as a contest. Credit to our lads we battled to the very end but it wasn’t to be and they retained their title.
Our players and management team will be very disappointed having put in a huge commitment and effort throughout the year, but everyone in the Club and indeed the town will thank them for the great number of weeks we had with the run in the Championship.
We have little time to dwell on it now with the Munster Club Hurling Championship v Ballygunner fixed for Walsh Park on Sunday week the 28th.
Team: Tommy Wallace, Seanaidh Smyth, Finbar O’ Mahony, Eoin Moloney, Luke Dineen, Sean O’Leary Hayes, James Nagle, Seamus O’Farrell, Paul Haughney (0-01), Cormac Beausang (0-01), Cormac Walsh (0-04), Luke O’ Farrell (capt.) (0-03), Sean O’Meara (0-01), Conor Lehane (0-07, 6 frees) & Patrick White (1-01).
Subs used Padraic Nagle, Tommy O’Connell & Ross O’Regan.
Referee Diarmaid Kirwan of Eire Og.

Minor
Our minor hurlers were crowned County Champions last Monday evening in Pairc Ui Rinn when they deservedly defeated a gallant Blarney side in the Premier 1 County Championship final by 1-22 to 1-10. The first quarter was very tense with both sides taking the game to each other but the second quarter was one which we dominated. A well taken goal from Aaron Mulcahy and points from Kian Farmer, Kevin Finn and Ross O ’Regan in between a Blarney goal left us ahead at the break by 1-12 to 1-05.
Early in the second half Blarney reduced the deficit to five points but our lads never panicked and when our lads  upped their performance we pulled away thanks to fine points from Arthur Nganua (three in a row), Kevin Finn and Gary Carroll.
Our defence was terrific in the second half only conceding five points all of this contributing to a final quarter where we could admire the skills of this talented bunch of players.
There were joyous scenes at the final whistle, Chairman of Central Rebel Og Michael O’Mahony awarded the Man of the Match award to Kian Farmer and then presented the joint captains Ross O’Regan and Sean O’Sullivan with the Cup.

This is our first title in this grade since 2010, hopefully this will help to inspire our seniors.
Well done to the players and management team of Padraig O’Brien, Donal Burke, Chris Casey, Mark O’Sullivan, Martin Mc Sweeney, Paul Britton & John Ferriter.
Team: Alan Power, Cormac O’Brien, Christian Murphy, David Scanlon, Sam Quirke, Sean O’Sullivan (joint capt.), Ciaran Evans, Tommy O’ Connell (0-01free), Kevin Finn (0-03), Kian Farmer (0-05), Evan Rowlands, Garry Carroll (0-02), Ross O’Regan (joint capt) (0-05, 1 free), Aaron Mulcahy (1-01) & Cian Crowley.
