Juvenile

Fe 8
A sunny Pairc Ui Chaoimh greeted 28 players for their first taste of competitive action of the year last Saturday week as we participated in the U8 Go Games football blitz. All our players got to play three games on the 4G pitch and every one of them played very well, but most importantly they enjoyed the experience. A big thank you to young whistlers Jack Fitzgerald and Charlie Walsh for traveling on the day and for officiating several games.

Fe 10
We had our first match of 2018 in the Rebel Og Leagues. We played Aghada in football in Midleton last Saturday week.  Thankfully after a bad week the sun shone and both panels of can be very proud of the fine football and entertainment they provided to the fine attendance of parents. A very good way to start the season.

Fe 12
Clonmult Park was the venue for Saturdays match v Youghal in the Football league.  On an excellent surface and in ideal weather conditions we took on the sea siders on what proved to be a very good game of attacking football.  Both sides went at it hammer and thongs from the start.  The magpies got off to an excellent start registering 1.04 without reply when Youghal replied with a rocket to the back of the net shortly followed by another bullet like goal,  we  responded well adding a couple of further points before the half time break.  The second half began with Midleton playing against the breeze but still we managed some very good scores, Youghal rattled the net again mid way through the second half but the magpies kept their concentration and with some excellent team work held out for a win.  Great credit due to both teams for the sporting manor in which the match was played.  Next up is Mallow in Football Thursday the 5th April, followed by the beginning of the intensive Hurling league campaign at the weekend. Panel :  Adam O Connor, Ben Fitzpatrick, Callum Mc Sweeney, Carthaigh Cronin, Daniel Garde, Eoghan Fraser, Jack Foley, James Mc Sweeney, John Paul Mc Manus, Paddy Walsh,  Peter Barrett, Sean McSharry, Shane McNamara, Thomas Dunlea, Conor Morley, Jake Kirby, Marcas Lambe and Senan Gleeson.

Fe 16
On Wednesday afternoon we welcomed Imokilly to Midleton for a challenge game.
Conditions were good and entertaining and open hours hurling was witnessed. We registered a couple of early goals in the first half, both finished expertly by Paul Connaughton and Ryan Cahill. Some fine point taking followed from play, from Darragh McCarthy in particular. Half time was Midleton 2-6 v Imokilly 0-4. We started the second half brightly and
another fine finish to the net from Alex Quirke put Midleton in control. Imokilly then hit a purple patch and got a couple of goals of their own but some good point scoring in the last ten minutes from Connaughton and Darragh Crowley saw Midleton over the line.
Full time Midleton 3-12 v Imokilly 2-9. All in all it was pleasing to see direct hurling from our lads with good aggression and hope this will continue. We have another couple of challenges ahead this week in Midleton before we play our first league game against Sars.
Team: Brion Saunderson, Luke Deane, Charlie Walsh, Ciarmhac Smyth, Gavin Reddy, Jack Fitzgerald, Patrick Kane, Alex Quirke(1-1), Alex Pranger, Dan Cagney, Darragh McCarthy(0-3), Darragh Crowley(0-6, 2f), Paul Connaughton(1-1), Ryan Cahill(1-0) & Conor Fitzgerald(0-1). Subs: Nicky Walsh, Ben Cummins, Trevor Shine and James Condon.
Fixtures: Monday 2nd April: Midleton Fe16 v Midleton Fe15 at 11am & Thursday 5th April: Midleton Fe16 v Seandun at 4pm.

Juvenile Easter Camp
On Wednesday last the 28th of March we had 130 boys and girls in attendance at our Hurling & Football Easter Camp. We would like to express our thanks to our Juvenile Chairman Paudie O’ Brien and our Coaching Officer Martin Mc Sweeney for arranging the camp. Paudie arranged all our coaches and helpers and Martin Mc Sweeney was on hand to oversee and co-ordinate the various age groups on the day. The camp ran from 10am until 1pm. Thanks to Tracy Saunderson for her assistance with registrations on the morning.  Our coaches and helpers on the day were; Christopher Power, Padraig O’ Brien, Muireann O’ Brien, Cathal Gunning, Sean O’ Meara, Molly Beausang, Rhea Buckley, Tim O’ Sullivan, Dan O’ Sullivan, Vivienne Gleeson, Caoimhe Cronin, Chloe Garde, Sadhbh Beausang and Lucy Wallace. Midleton GAA Club is extremely fortunate to have all of these players actively participating in facilitating camps like this for our younger players.

Juvenile Flag Day
Many thanks to all our supporters for a very successful Juvenile Flag Day at Hurley’s SuperValu on Saturday the 31st of March.  A special thanks once again to John Hurley and Tommy Grimes for their continued support. This annual fundraiser is vital to the running of our Juvenile Club.  Our collectors on the day were made up of our Juvenile Chairman, Committee Members, Coaches & Parents. We are extremely grateful to them all for their support and appreciate them giving up an hour of their time to support our club;  Karen & Niall Prenter, Carley Moloney, Maura Hodnett, Aidan Moloney, Declan McInerney, Paudie O’ Brien,
Willie Lawton, Tracy Saunderson, Marcella O’ Neill, Sharon O’ Sullivan & Michael Carroll. As always a sincere thanks to our Juvenile Treasurer Mary Quinn who co-ordinated the various collectors and time slots.

Responding to Texts for Match Availability
We would like to remind parents of Juvenile players that it is very important to respond to texts issued by your son’s team manager. A considerable amount of time is needed to
arrange matches with other clubs for your son’s participation and enjoyment. When fielding teams in leagues and competitions coaches need to know as soon as possible which players are, or in some cases are not available to play a given match.  Please ensure that as soon as possible after receiving a text from a team manager that you respond and confirm if your son is, or is not available to play.  Some team managers are placed in a position whereby they have to issue a second text to some parents to confirm if a player is or is not available to play.
