Midleton Hurling & Football, Ladies Football & Camogie Club NEWS

Munster Post Primary Schools Hurling
Both Midleton CBS and CBC Hurling teams had good victorys in the Dr. Harty Cup quarter finals last Wednesday. Midleton CBS defeated Thurles CBS in Clonmel by 0-15 to 1-11 and now play Templemore in the semi final, Alan Power, Sean O’Sullivan, Sean O’Leary Hayes, Arthur Nganou & Kian Farmer were part of the team whilst Cormac O’Brien, David Scanlon, Luke Smith, Ciaran Evans, Gary Carroll and Samuel Quirke were part of the panel.
CBC defeated St  Colmans in Mallow by 1-17 to 1-13 to reach their first semi final where they will take on favourites Ard Scoil Rís, Tommy O’Connell and Kevin Finn were team members. Both semi finals will take place on Saturday 27th with venues to be confirmed.    

Co-op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League
A youthful and experimental Cork side were defeated by Kerry last Sunday in Tralee by 1-23 to 1-13. Congrats to Seanaidh Smyth who made his debut at right corner back.

80 Years Ago
On the 4th of July 1938 our Minor hurlers affiliated as St Enda’s played the first round of the Championship at home against Sars and won by 8-05 to 3-02. We were nominated from the Division and on the 9th of October we defeated Cloughdubh in Douglas by 9-05 to 1-00.
Then on the 13th of November we played the semi final at the Cork Athletic grounds defeating Tracton by 4-07 to 1-02. The County final was played on the 27th of November at Fermoy and resulted in a win for the Magpies over Sean Claraghs by 5-03 to 4-00.
We returned to play Carrigtwohill in the East Cork final on the 4th of December and won by 6-03 to 3-02. The referee was Mr. P O’Neill.

40 Years Ago
Our Intermediate hurlers of 1978 begin their Championship campaign with a first round victory over Inniscarra on the 21st of May by 1-11 to 0-06. Then on the 10th of July we defeated a very tough Eire Og side by 2-09 to 1-10. In the County final we took on Newtownshandrum in Fermoy in the end of August and ended sixteen years of frustration winning by 1-12 to 1-10, the referee was Willie Horgan of Mayfield.

Lip Sync Fundraiser
Midleton Gaa, Ladies Football and Camogie Clubs along with Midleton Rugby Club are holding a Lip Sync Fundraiser on March 18th at the Radisson Hotel. Our plans are well and truly under way. We have placed our Promotional signs around the town so please keep an eye out. Watch out on Facebook -Midleton Lip Sync for all details coming up in the next few weeks. This will be a very exciting night and we are hoping that the town will come out and support all our Acts and both Clubs. 

Operation Transformation
Hi everyone as some of you are aware I made it to the last 19 leaders for Operation Transformation. Unfortunately I didn’t make it into the final five but I’m not giving up and  in conjunction with the show I will be organising a Walking group in Midleton.
Every Monday evening at 6.45pm, which will start on Monday next January 15th for 7 weeks. We will meet outside Midleton GAA Club and Run/ Walk or Crawl the “Fat Mile” which is approx. 3.6 km. Everyone is welcome, regards Paudie O’Brien.

Traditional Music & Singing Session
Our monthly Oíche Ghaelach will take place next Friday the 19th of January at 9.30pm in the Club Lounge, all are welcome. Fáilte roimh chách, gura míle.

Ladies Football (Peil na mBan)
Ready for 2018... Training will start for U10 to U16 in Midleton College on Monday 15th of January 7-8pm. NEW Girls welcome.
Don’t forget we are holding a team meeting in the GAA club on Friday 26th January. Everyone who is interested in kicking a ball in 2018 is welcome to attend, If you cannot attend but would like to give football a go for 2018 give Paddy a call @ 085 807 5444.

Camogie
Medal Presentation Night:
On Friday night last we held our first awards night, our U14 team were presented with their U14 County Final medals and trophy, this is a great achievement and well deserved for this very hard working bunch of girls and a great achievement and very proud occasion for the club.  It was also a very successful year for out U12 team collecting their awards for winning the East Cork U12 League as well as the Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament.  Congratulations to all involved.

On the night we said farewell to outgoing Chairperson Denis Kelleher with a small presentation. Denis contribution to the formation of the club and its development over the past four years was acknowledged by Secretary Darina Foley and echoed by incoming Chairperson Eoin Kennedy.
Training resumes for U12/U14/U16 on Tuesday Jan 16th and will continue Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm in Midleton Hockey Pitch for the next 8 weeks.
Table Quiz:
Midleton Camogie fundraiser Family Table Quiz will be held on Sunday the 28th January at 5pm in Midleton GAA Club.  A fun night is guaranteed with prizes for fist second and third place as well as lots of spot prizes... pleases support.  To book a table contact 0876822916.

Juvenile

Condolences
Midleton GAA club wishes to extend its sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Pamela Daly, mother of Nicky Hayes from our Fe16's panel. It was with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Pam last Sunday.  The thoughts and prayers of the entire GAA family are with her children, Craig, Charlotte, Nicky and Erin, her parents Marie & Tim, her sister Annette and all her relatives and many friends at this very difficult time.  Pam was a great supporter of the Juvenile club, and was always first to lend a hand in any event we ran at the Club.  Pam will be very sadly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Munster GAA Club Forum
The 2018 Munster GAA Club Forum will take place on Saturday next January 20th at Pairc Ui Chaoimh with an impressive line-up of topics and speakers. Ruth Walsh is co-ordinating a Club booking on behalf of Midleton GAA Club for all persons wanting to attend.  If you haven’t done so already please email Ruth at walshruth100@gmail.com to book your place.
