We kicked off our Go Game season on Saturday, for some it was their first game ever we  fielded two under 8 teams and one  under 7 team. Our 8's played two matches against Sliabh Rua. The girls played great camogie and never let the heat affect their performance. Our U7's played Carrigtwohill in three ten minute games and what superb games they were to watch.  We the coaches are very proud of all the girls and thank you as always to the parents for all your help and support. Thanks to our young referee Lucy Wallace.

We continued our league campaign last Saturday when we played Castlelyons in round two of the league. The match was played in Midleton on a rare sunny and humid afternoon. The girls got off to a great start defending well and dropping great balls into the forwards from midfield. A few missed opportunities by us led to Castlelyons going ahead at the end of the first half.  The girls worked hard in the second half and showed some great teamwork & skills. We added to our scores in the second half but the match ended with Castlelyons securing a win in what was a very evenly matched and competitive game.

Ladies Football
Midleton U10 v Cobh League
On Monday night the 15th May our under 10 girls played at home to Cobh for their second home match of the season.  A beautiful evening for football at the Tech pitch, we had
nineteen players available for selection on night.
We started quickly and grabbed two goals to take control of the match from the start.  We then went on to score two points without reply. The second half produced some great scoring chances which our forwards went on to convert getting 1-2 in the space of a few minutes. Cobh grabbed a goal in second half but we piled on the pressure to get two more goals before the end. Overall it was great team performance from the girls with a great display of all the key skills of the game on show. So well done and keep up the good work.
Both teams played their part in a very sporting match. We proved to be much the stronger team. Score on the night was Midleton 5-4 to Cobh 1-0.

On Thursday the 27th we played away to St Nicks. It was a nice evening for football, we had twenty two players available for selection. On the night St Nicks who are only a newly formed girls football club had fourteen players so we played the same number. Thanks to all the parents for ensuring we had a big squad travelling the continued support gives the girls great encouragement. We dominated the match from the start with a determined attitude. Some great skills were on display in every position. All the hard work at training is showing now with super game skills and positional play. On the night we were the much more experienced team and went on to win the match. Well done to St Nicks for playing their part in a very sporting game. Score on the night was St Nicks 0-0 to Midleton 3-5.

Juvenile

Fe 10
For the first time we received an invitation to take part in the Ballyduff Owen Geary Annual Under 10 hurling tournament.  The invitation was for one team which meant that only one panel of 15 players could participate. A total number of 32 teams from Cork, Tipperary & Waterford were invited for this years 2016 tournament. We played along with 11 other teams on Friday night May 27th with the remaining 20 teams partaking in games on Saturday May 28th.  The tournament was set-up on Friday night for each team to play three matches with the winner of the group progressing to the following weekend.  Each game was 10 minutes aside. Our first game saw us take on An Ghaeltacht.  The first half saw the teams level on one goal a piece.  The magpies settled into the game and for most parts were dominant in winning possession but were unfortunate to have their efforts hit the goal posts or waved wide by the narrowest of margins.  The final score was 1-0 to 2-1 in favour An Ghaeltacht.

Next up was Naomh Brid.  A high scoring game which saw Midleton dominate both the first and second halfs.  It was great to see all the Midleton players putting all their skills learned at training into practice.  The half time score was 0-0 to 2-4.  The second half saw Midleton grow in confidence and ran out comfortable winners on 0-0 to 5-7 which gave the magpies a great confidence boost having lost their first match.

Our final game saw us take on St. Patricks.  This was a very tough physical match which saw both teams give it their all.  Players for both teams were blocking, catching and whipping hard on the ball.  The half time time score was 0-0 to 0-3.  The second half saw both teams continue to battle to gain possession and St. Patricks scored a goal to level the match followed up by another point.  Midleton worked the ball through a series of passes and took their score to level the match on a final scoreline of 0-4 to 1-1.  The final whistle went and the end result was a draw. An Ghaeltacht progressed through to next weekend as they won all of their matches.  We are extremely proud of all our players.  This was their very first competitive tournament and they gave a great account of themselves and represented their club, families and fellow under 10 players extremly well.  Well done to all the players and a sincere thank you to Ballyduff GAA Club for the invitation and to all the parents for travelling to Waterford on Friday evening to support the lads.  A sincere thanks also to Andrew Foley for all the amazing photographs taken on the night.

Premier 2 Football League – 29th May result Midleton 2-10 v Youghal 2-10
Defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory! Well, while we did manage a draw, it felt like a defeat, as our lads were very unlucky not to win this football game at home on Saturday last, in the blistering sunshine. We started well, and took some good scores early in the first half, but Youghal stayed in it with some well taken points. At half time, the score read 2-3 to 0-6 in our favour, and that lead increased further once play resumed with our midfield and forwards being totally on top. However, we handed the opposition two soft goals and some easy frees resulting in a game we left behind us, points lost, and maybe some valuable lessons learned.

Panel: Brian O’Connell, Riain de Barra, Fionn Dalton, Conor Newcombe, Ben Kenneally, Odhran Prenter, David Green, David Cremin, Tadhg Bohan, Alex Moloney, Dara Scanlon, Daniel Coffey, Eoin McGrath, Niall Lang, Cathal Beausang, Mikey Finn, Dara Scanlon, Sean Fraser, Caolan Dennigan & Tiarnan Roche.

Last Sunday, we travelled with the club to Semple Stadium, Thurles, for the Cork/Tipp match. On the way, we stopped off to play Knockavilla Kickhams in a hurling challenge which was a very good outing for both sides – our big thanks to Knockavilla for their hospitality, food and refreshments after the game, very much appreciated.

This coming week sees us battling with our old hurling rivals St Finbarr’s, at home on Friday evening, and promises to be another cracker in our hurling fixtures. There is very little between these two sides and a lot of young talent will be on display – please come out and support the lads. Our friends from Kilmacud Crokes are touring in Cork next weekend, and visit us on Saturday afternoon for a hurling challenge. We look forward to welcoming them with the Midleton mix of firebrand hurling and generous hospitality!!

Fe 16
We’re not involved in competitive games at this stage of the year as it's coming up to Exam Time. We'll have twenty two of our squad doing the Junior Cert and we wish them all well.

On Wednesday evening last after a light training session we have a "Drugs Awareness" talk from Detective Sergeant Sean Leahy in the Club. This was attended by our Fe 15 & Fe 16 players along with our Mentors and Children's Officer Ingrid O Riordan. It was a very informative session and hopefully this along with constant vigilance of all will help to keep Drugs our of our Club and out of our Community.

Last Saturday we held a Strength & Conditioning session with Cork Senior Ladies Footballer and Multiple Senior All Ireland winner Orlagh Farmer. This was a brilliant session and helps to freshen things up in our training for Championship days ahead after the Junior Cert.
