The late Mick "Bonzo" Tobin

21 December, 2015

It's with great shock and sadness that we learnt of the sudden passing of Mick "Bonzo" Tobin late of St Mary's Rd this afternoon.
Mick was Football Secretary , Vice President of the club, a long serving officer, selector and member with his adopted Magpies for many years, having served "The Shamrocks" in Knockanore previously.
He was a minor selector from 1984 to 1989 when the club won four County hurling titles, he became Minor Secretary for the Club in 1989 and continued in this role for many years later becoming Football Secretary until present.
Mick was a very popular rep for the Club at the East Cork Board meetings for a number of years, he had a great relationship with all the Club delegates and indeed the Officers also.
Of late he will be remembered for overseeing the tremendous success of the Club's Junior B & C hurling teams, along with his fellow selectors Gavin Power and Ger Lawton they created history winning four "B" Championships in a row from 2009 - 2012 and three "C" Championships in a row from 2011-2013, some achievement.

Only last Wednesday night he attended the AGM and afterwards spent hours with his friends discussing the events of the evening and planning for the year ahead.
"Bonzo" or "The Bonz" as he was affectionately know to us all had many old tales and storys and a fantastic memory of games, he had a saying "when I played the game I never went around fella's .... I always went thru them",  I have no doubt that the gates of heaven will be open this evening to welcome this gentleman thru !
Magpies Abú ..... Deise Abú
