02 August, 2015

Senior Hurling
Our Championship opponents are St Finbarr’s following their victory over Bishopstown, the game is fixed for August 15th in Pairc Ui Rinn @ 8pm.

Junior Hurling
Very disappointingly our Junior A Hurling Championship quarter final against Bride Rovers did not go ahead on Sunday last following their withdrawal from the game.  This was not a very desirable outcome particularly for our players and selectors who had prepared well for this game.

Minor Hurling
Last Tuesday evening our Minor hurlers had a good victory over hosts Carrigaline in the Premier 2 League on a score of 3-12 v 3-20.
We have a League game this Thursday evening at home to Charleville at 7pm and our Championship fourth round game against Aghada is on the 12th of August in Killeagh at 7.30pm..
Team: Liam Franklin, Luke Smith, Adam Daly, Cathal Gunning, Eoin Mitchell, Seanaidh Smyth, Kevin Mulcahy, Sean O’Leary Hayes (0-02), Sean O’Meara (0-01), Luke Finnerty (0-04), Cormac Beausang (0-08 4 frees), Eoin Maloney (0-02), Jack Enright (1-00), Christopher Power (0-01) & Shane Finn . Subs used Tommy O’Connell, David Mulcahy (2-01), Tom Scanlon & Eoin Collins.

Championship Game
Last Sunday afternoon we hosted Erins Own and St Ita’s in the East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship quarter final which resulted in victory for a Seamus Harnedy led St Ita’s by 3-16 to 2-14. Many thanks to all those who assisted on the day.

Camogie
 Fé 13 Midleton v Castlemartyr:
Our Fé 13's had a busy week in the Imokilly U13B league, with round 2 & 3 games played. The first was on Tuesday evening against Castlemartyr in Midleton. Castlemartyr came out strong but Midleton more than matched them with a score of Midleton 1-3, Castlemartyr 1-2 at the half-time break. Midleton continued their great work rate in the second half with girls performing brilliantly all over the field. It was all to play for with 15 minutes to go but with a strong wind in the second half Castlemartyr were able to pull ahead and the final score was Midleton 2-3, Castlemartyr 3-9.  Huge credit to the Midleton girls who showed great determination, team-work and skill throughout.
Panel: Ella Murphy, Aoife Lomasney, Nikola Smolonova, Abby Purcell, Leah Hogan, Abbie Foley, Hannah Wall, Ali Smith, Chloe Garde, Konyinsola Afolabi, Lily O'Connor, Licia Maguire, Holly Duggan, Aisling Kelleher.
The second match was on Friday night against Cobh, this was again a home game. Midleton rattled the back of the net within the first few minutes but Cobh came back strong and came out on top at the end of the first half.  Midleton dug deep in the second half and put up a strong defence. The girls kept their heads up and battled until the final whistle but Cobh came out on top in the end. Huge credit to the Midleton girls who showed great determination, team-work and skill throughout both matches. Considering that the majority of girls on this team are U11 & U12 it is clear to see that the future is bright for Midleton Camogie.
Panel:  Ella Murphy, Abby Purcell, Licia Maguire, Leah Hogan, Aoife Lomasney, Ali Smith, Hannah Wall, Lily O'Connor, Aisling Kelleher, Holly Duggan, Abbie Foley, Caoimhe Murray.

Ladies Football
Midleton  3-4  Glanmire 5 – 10 (Minor Championship - 27/07/2015)
Midleton minors, minus a number of their older players, put up a very spirited performance against a strong Glanmire side.  Despite playing against the wind, Glanmire got the ideal start with a goal in the first minute. Midleton got more into the game and a good Claire O’Mahony point after 6 mins settled the early nerves.  Glanmire kicked a good point before Molly Beausang stitched a fine goal in the 11th minute to ensure Midleton were very much in the game.  Claudia Kearney was marshalling the edge of the square and getting good support from Robyn Scanlon and Rhea Buckley. Glanmire kicked two more points before Michaela McCann slotted over a beauty following good work out the field by Charley Moore & Ciara O’Doherty.  Meg O’Regan was a strong force in goals catching a lot of ball and getting good distance on her clearances and kick outs. An unfortunate break of a ball resulted in Glanmire creating an overlap and scoring a goal on the stroke of half time, leaving the score Glanmire 2-4 Midleton 1-2.
As in the first half Glanmire started very well in the second half and stretched their lead scoring 2-3 in the first 12 minutes of the half before Roisin O’Callaghan steadied the ship and finished off a 45m run with a wonderful point. With Deirdre Corcoran also winning the dual on her wing and combining with Aoife Madden, Midleton half back line were on top and started to create openings pushing forward to create overlaps for their fowards.  Laura O’Leary pounced onto a through ball and flicked to the net from close range to ensure Midleton still had a chance.  However, by throwing so much into attack Midleton were exposed to the overlap and conceded a further 1-1 before the hard working captain, Niamh O’Farrell, got highest to fist the ball to the Glanmire net.  Lisa Ahern and Kari McEvoy won a lot of ball in defence and with Dionne Carroll making some good interceptions  Midleton were not going to go down without a fight.  With Midleton tiring, Glanmire scored a further two points before Claire O’Mahony received a short free and shot narrowly over from the 14m line to leave the final score Glanmire 5-10 to Midleton 3-4. On the night Glanmire were fully deserving of their victory.  Despite the loss there were many positives.  In particular, a number of the younger players are proving that they are very comfortable at this level and will be challenging for starting positions in the junior team in the not too distant future.
The panel on the night was Megan O’Regan, Rhea Buckley, Claudia Kearney, Robyn Scanlon, Roisin O’Callaghan, Aoife Madden, Deirdre Corcoran, Charlie Moore, Niamh O’Farrell (C), Ciara O’Doherty, Michaela McCann, Claire O’Mahony, Dionne Carroll, Lisa Ahern, Molly Beausang, Laura O’Leary, Kari McEvoy.
