Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Minor Hurling
Our minor hurlers had a very fine victory in their Rebel Og Premier 2 Hurling Championship first round game last Saturday afternoon at a very windy Kilbarry.
Playing with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half we built up a fine lead of 1-14 to 0-02. In the second half we got an early scare when Mallow got two goals in quick succession but from here on our backs got it together. Some smart point taking by our forwards and tough defending by our defence saw us finish out the game comfortable winners by 1-21 to 2-07.
Team: Eoin Maloney, Luke Morrissey, Gavin Bagnell, Josh Deady, Seanaidh Smyth, Luke Dineen, Kevin Rohan, Sean O Meara, Killian Deady (0-02F), Padraig O’Brien (0-03), Kieran Maloney (0-02), Cormac Beausang (0-01), Brian O’ Mahony, Lochlinn Mc Carthy(0-03) & Garan Manley (1-10 3F). Subs Calem Deady, Liam Franklin, Shane Buckley, Conor Evans, Kevin Mulcahy, Ross Cummins, Mark Crotty, James O Brien, Sean O Leary & Luke Smith.
We wish them well in their Championship 3rd round game v Aghada in July.

Juvenile Notes

Fe11
The Fe 11 footballers were in Cobh on Sunday afternoon for the next round of football league games for the Rebel Og Central Go Games U11 FL Gp2. Our 22 players were split into 2 equal teams of eleven. The Cobh pitch was bathed in sunshine when the teams took to the field for the 2PM throw-ins. The standard of Gaelic Football on display during both games kept the spectators entertained for the full 50 minutes. These pair of games turned out to be real competition for the young Magpies. Kicking, blocking and score taking were all on display from all sides on the day. Both Midleton sides held comfortable leads at half time. On the resumption we were again witness to some superb individual displays. Cobh did work their way back into the games but as the final whistles approached the Magpies in both games were able to pull away and hold on to their leads.
As Fermoy have conceded their matches there is no games till a hurling match V St. Vincent’s on the 10th of May. So, we will be back to training on Saturday 3rd of May in Midleton GAA grounds for 10AM.
