Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Senior Hurling
Our senior hurlers had a hard fought victory in the first round of the Championship against Douglas in Carrigtwohill last Sunday afternoon.
The game was very even in the first half and came to life with a cracker of a goal from Conor Lehane only for Douglas to reply with a goal after a free came off the upright. They led at the break by 1-09 v1-07.
In the second half we fought our way back into the game with scores from Conor, Peter Dowling, James Nagle and Brian Hartnett to push us into a four point lead, despite some pressure on our defence late on we stood firm and held on for a deserved win by 1-17 v 1-13. Well done to the players and the management for all their work in the past number of months to ensure this victory and we can now look forward to the draw for the next round.

Juvenile Notes

Fe13
On Friday night last 31st May 2013, Midleton Fe 13 Hurlers defeated Sarsfields at Kilbarry on a scoreline of 6-9 to 2-9. This was a tremendous display from our team showing great discipline, positive attitude and some great skill and determination. League points also up for the taking here, and this added to the importance of this contest. Sars won the toss and elected to play against the stiff breeze. This suited Midleton as our option would have been to play with the breeze in the first half. Our players settled well and scored a few points from play and frees before Sars scored their opening goal. After 20 minutes or so the score was Midleton 1-4 to Sars 2-1. However by halftime Midleton started to drift ahead scoring 2-2 in the period before making the halftime score Midleton 3-6 to Sars 2-3.
Fighting against the breeze in the second half Midleton got a dream start and had two goals scored within the first 5 minutes. Sars tried all they had to breech the Midleton rearguard for the goal they needed, but with with great bravery and resolute, disciplined defence Midleton held out and added another 1-3 before the game was out. Sars to their credit were fair and hard throughout and while they tapped on another few points before the final whistle from play and frees, the goals they sought just didn't happen for them. The final score was Midleton 6-9 to Sars 2-9. Midleton now move on to play Blackrock in the Quarter Final. The Midleton panel was: Coleman Quinn, Ronan Lynch, Adam O Connell, Ryan O Riordan, David Scanlon, Alan Power, Niall Higgins, Cormac Hill, Evan Rowlands, Griffin Hurley, Ross Shanahan, Mark Daly, Ciaran Evans, Christian Murphy, Fergus Wade, Sean O Sullivan, Cian Murray, Tunde Olotu-Jubril, Ross O Regan, Kian Farmer, Tommy O Connell, Jake Shanahan, Gary Carroll, Cormac O Brien, Sam Quirke.

On Sat Jun 1st last 12 of our panel made the trip to Dunhill in Co. Waterford to participate in the Munster Supertouch 10 aside competition and after 3 tough games against Tramore, Port Law and Na Gaeil we came top of the group and have qualified for the finals of this competition to be held in Mallow on Sat June 15th next well done to the panel on the day of Adam Daly, Cathal Gunning, Christian Daly, Christopher Power, Conor Evans, Eoin Moloney, Jordan Roche, Kevin Daly, Ronan O'Donovan, Ryan McConville, Sean O'Leary and Shane O'Brien.

Sciath na Scoil
Congratulations to the hurlers of CBS Primary School and their coaches Jim O Sullivan and Jason Bateman on their great victory in the H2 final played last Wednesday in Pairc Ui Rinn. They defeated Carrigtwohill CBS by 4-07 v 1-04

A entourage of seven buses left the school this morning to bring huge support to their team and wasn’t it worth it in the end. The win was indeed a fitting tribute to retiring school Principal Mr Pat Fitzgerald who has been a fantastic supporter and promoter of Gaelic games in the school. We wish him a healthy and happy retirement.
Panel:Eric Mc Kenna Duggan, Patrick Kane, Ciaran Evans, Niall Higgins, Ronan Lynch, Cian Farmer, Adam Meade, Griffin Hurley, Ross O Regan (capt), Eathan Daly Harkin, Jake Shanahan, Evan Mc Evoy, Daniel Cagney, Ryan O Riordan, Daragh Desmond, Coleman Quinn, Aaron Mulcahy, Adam O Connell, David Scanlon & Alan Power.

Mouthguards
"In all Football Games and Practice Football Sessions, it is mandatory for all players to use a mouth guard (Note Effect dates of this rule) Grades up to and including Minor 1/01/2013 for all players 1/01/2104".
It has been brought to our notice that some players are disregarding this directive.  It is in the clubs interest that this rule is adhered to, failure which results in an injury could mean that the injury claim would not be certified. Failure to comply could mean a player being dismissed by the referee.
