Midleton GAA News 25th June 2012

25 June, 2012

Junior A Hurling Champioship
Midleton 2-10 Erins Own 1-12
Midleton Junior A hurlers got their 2012 Championship campaign off to a winning start when the had a point to spare over Erins Own in a well contested game last Saturday evening in Lisgoold. We got off to s low start start and found ourselves down by 1-3 to no score. One might have feared the worst as our starting fifteen was missing the like of Eoin Ferriter, Stephen Moore, Cormac Walsh and Paul Barry who were all unavailable. However the fifteen on duty got stuck in and a goal from Pa Whyte steadied the ship. Micheal Keohane from frees and a Pa Whyte point from play saw us level after twenty minutes. Erins Ownadded two more points to our one to leave the half time score 1-06 to 1-05.
The second half was nip and tuck with neither side puling away. Just when it looked like extra time Davy O’Brien sacored a decisive point which say us over the line by the narrowest of margins.
Well done to all involved on what was an encouraging result.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-11
On Thursday 21st Midleton’s Fe 11 hurlers finally made the trip to Killeagh for the Rebel Óg League match. The night was good the pitch was in lovely order so all we needed was some good hurling.
We travelled with 20 players meaning two matches of 10 a side.
One team started very well and stayed there till the end of the game. The other team were well behind in the first half but came good in the second half to join their team mates from the other match to make it two wins on the night.
Well played all and thanks to Killeagh for hosting us and for the well fought games.
There are two remaining fixtures in the league against Blarney and Mallow which we hope to play in the next week or two.

Fe-10
Our FE10 hurlers had two games over the weekend, One on Friday the 22nd and the other on Saturday the 23rd. On Friday we played Ballincollig who arrived with 30 players so we played three 10 aside matches and on Saturday we played Carrigtwohill who came with 20 players so we had two 10 aside games. This turned out to be a great weekends hurling for our FE10 hurlers who are improving with every outing. Thanks to Ballincollig and Carrigtwohill for travelling for both games and also the parents for the support.

Training
Training is in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
The dates are out for this year’s Cúl Camp. The camp will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of July. Boys from Junior Infants up are welcome to attend. Further details are available on the club website www.midletongaa.com .

The dates have been confirmed as Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of July. The competition will once again take place in East Cork Golf Club.
Once again the main sponsor will be Blackwater Motors Cork, Fermoy and Skibereen.
