Juvenile Notes

Wow, we’re 12 months on from what was a memorable Feile Peil weekend in Cork. We were honoured to welcome New York to Midleton last year for what turned out to be a week which will live long in our memories. This year New York will return to Ireland this time to Co Laois. We would like to wish New York well next weekend in Laois/Offaly. I have no doubt that their hosts Stradbally of Laois will have a lively time of it. Our best regards go to those who return again and to those new to Feile Peil.

The weekend just gone was one to forget from a club perspective. With heavy downpours for several days the pitch became unplayable and was closed for training on Saturday. Several matches too were postponed and apart from the 9s and 10s the whole weekend was a damp squib.

Fe-10
On Saturday the 16th our Fe10 and Fe9 hurlers headed for Dungarvan to play in their annual hurling blitz. A lot of work is done to organise these blitzes so with the weather being so bad the two days previous there was a lot of calls and texts to see was it going ahead. Dungarvan gave it every chance to go ahead and with an early morning pitch inspection we were all set to go. We travelled with 30 players which was a great turn out considering the weather, we had two Fe10 teams and one Fe9 team with each team playing three matches. The pitches might have been wet but this did not stop our lads from playing some great hurling. With the weather being so bad we are getting used to playing in these conditions. Thanks to Dungarvan for the invite and refreshments after, also the parents for their support.

Fe-9
The U9 Midleton hurling squad entertained Douglas at the Midleton CBS grounds last Wednesday night to play the last of their hurling matches before the school summer holidays. A welcome break in the rainy conditions allowed the games go-ahead and thankfully the rain held off for the duration of the matches. Two full panels of 30 players each meant three games in parallel with 10 players per team. There is a great depth of talent at U9 in both clubs and this was reflected on the field of play where the standard of hurling on the night was very high. All teams played three very competitive and sporting games and once again the real winner on the night was hurling.
Refreshments were served to the players at the end of the night.
Thanks to all the parents and trainers who helped out during the evening.

Training
Training is in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
The dates are out for this year’s Cúl Camp. The camp will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of July. Boys from Junior Infants up are welcome to attend. Further details are available on the club website www.midletongaa.com .

Juvenile Golf Classic
The Midleton Juvenile GAA Golf Classic will take place once again this year. Following on from the great success of last year we hope we will receive strong support again in 2012. The dates have been confirmed as Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of July. The competition will once again take place in East Cork Golf Club.
Once again the main sponsor will be Blackwater Motors Cork, Fermoy and Skibereen.
More details of the Classic will follow in the coming weeks.
