Midleton GAA News 21st May 2012

21 May, 2012

Senior Hurling Cahmpionship
The 27th May has come around very quickly and that means we open our 2012 Championship campaign this coming Sunday. Just like last year we face Bishopstown in the opening round. This time we travel to Riverstown to face what should be tough opponents.
Since last year we have new team management led by Peter Smith and assisted by Muiris Quirke, Michael Keohane, Pat Walsh and Dave Hogan. In fairness to the lads no stone has been left unturned in their preparation and they will be hoping for a good performance on Sunday to get our campaign off to a winning start.
We have lost Aidan Ryan to immigration since last year and while he is a huge loss we will be hoping that our players with all the experience gained over the last couple of years will step up to the challenge ahead.

We are still a very young team with this years captain Declan Ryan and goalkeeper Brian Behan being the two veterans of the side.
Your support on Sunday would be much appreciated and bring along the kids and make sure they are wearing their colours. Throw in is at 3.30pm.

Alcohol & Drugs Awareness Night
On Friday night May 11th there was an Alcohol and Drugs Awareness Night in Midleton GAA Club. It was aimed exclusively at our Fe 12, 13 and 14 players and their parents. Their was one Meeting for the Players and a seperate one for their parents, both being held at the same time. The evening was hosted by the GAA and HSE. Colin Regan, GAA National Co ordinator of the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Program was in attendance. Midleton GAA A.S.A.P. Officer Pearse McCarthy organised the night on behalf of the Club. There was a good turnout of players and parents on the night. All those who attended agreed that it was most informative and worthwhile event.

Midleton 2-18 Carrignavar 0-12
Our Junior hurlers made their trip to Carrignavar on Friday evening last a worthwhile one when the had a comprehensive victory over the home side. This gives us four wins and two losses from our six games which means there is still all to play for over the remaining four games.

Midleton GAA Gym Membership
Our Gym is now open for Membership. Priority will be given to applications from existing Club Members and their immediate families, former players with Midleton GAA and Members of Midleton Ladies Football Club. Further details are available on our Club Website and from any Club Officer.

Juvenile Notes
Training

Training is back in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.
