Midleton GAA news 22nd August

22 August, 2011

Senior Hurling Championship.
Midleton 1-17 Ballymartle 0-18
Midleton came through a tough test against Ballymartle on Sunday afternoon last to reach our first Senior Hurling semi final since 1994. Our opponents provided a stiff test and it was only on the last five minutes of the game that Midleton got our noses in front having been on the back foot for most of the second half. It was score for score in the first half with an excellently taken Luke O‘Farrell goal after a great set up by Seamus O’Farrell separating the teams at half time. A feature of the game was the excellently point taking by the Ballymartle half forward and midfield. Having led by three points at half time and coming out to play with the breeze in the second half Midleton should have been in the ascendancy however it was our opponents who raised their performance and were good value for their three point lead with ten minutes to go. We were having to work very hard for our scores and on the day we scrapped doggedly to earn the scores that put us back in front. There was relief all round at the final whistle. It was not our prettiest victory, it was one we had to scrap for and hopefully that will stand to us in the stiffer challenges that lie ahead. We now face either Cloyne or Carrigtwohill in the semi final and regardless of who we meet there will be huge local interest. Well done to all involved on Sunday last.

Lotto
The Lotto since its introduction to our Club a number of years ago has been one of our main sources of income and is crucial towards the upkeep and development of the club.
The Lotto draw takes place approximately 50 weeks of the year on each Friday night at the GAA Club.
The Jackpot begins at €1,200 (our current Jackpot is €8,700) and increases weekly by €200, in the event of there being no winner we have 5 Lucky dips @ €40 each.
We believe that many club members would support the Lotto if there was a more convenient way of contributing other than €2 per week.
In addition to the 5 week, 11 week and Yearly tickets, we now have a Direct Debit facility available to those who would prefer to support the club in this manner.
For as little as €8 a month you will be entered in at least 50 draws, if you would like to support your club please contact any Club officer who will assist you in completing the form.

Fe 21 East Cork Hurling Final.
Midleton face the winners of Sarsfields and Erins Own in the final of the Fe21 Hurling East Cork final. Sarsfields and Erins Own were due to play on Tuesday 23rd. The final is fixed for Lisgoold this coming Saturday evening, 27th with a 5.30pm throw in. It is a hectic time for this group of players with so many of them involved in the Senior and Minor squads. Midleton enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Castlelyons in the first round and will face a much stiffer test regardless of who comes through the semi final.

Fe 10
On Saturday 20th Midleton’s Fe 10’s travelled to Aghada where they had the chance get to know the big ball game again. Although more used to hurling our lads quickly came to grips with their task and showed great heart. It was a tough day with two teams of seven playing 6 games each with a lunch break in between. Overall Midleton held their own with some wins draws and a couple of losses. Well played to all who attended and thanks to the under 9’s who helped make up the numbers on the day.

Registration Day
Our annual juvenile player registration and sale of club gear will take place on Saturday 24th September at the GAA club
