Midleton GAA notes 23rd May 2011

23 May, 2011

Senior Hurling League
Midleton 2-11 Newtownshandrum 4-10
On Saturday evening last our Senior hurlers entertained Killeagh in the League. It was a blustery evening for hurling. Midleton appeared to have first use of the wind and started well. Howvever the concession of two goals meant that at half time our visitors led by 2-06 to 1-08. We started the second half strongly with a good goal from Pa Whyte and after ten minutes led by 2-10 to 2-07. However we lost our way somewhat after that. Killeagh goaled from a twenty yard free and followed it up with another goal . We struggled to gain a foothold against the wind. This was not helped when we were reduced to 14 players. In the end Killegah held out for a comfortable win. It was another disappointing loss in the League. Again we were short a number of players and it showed. The Championship is coming up on June 10th so it will be heads down for the next three weeks as the mentors and players finalise their preparations.

Junior A Hurling League
Midleton 0-13 Buttevant 0-12
The Junior A hurlers continued their good start to the Avondhu Imokilly league when the had a point to spare over Buttevant on Sunday last. This win gives us four victories from five games played.

Junior B medal presentation
Our Junior B Hurlers who won their second East Cork title in a row last year were presented with their medals on Friday evening last. The medals were presented  by Nealy Horgan, one of the Club’s greatest servants and supporters. Chairman Niall O’Neill was on hand to congratulate the Mentors and players on their wonderful achievement and wish them well in their pursuit of a third title in a row.

Midleton Fe-13 Hurling V Douglas
Our Fe-13 hurlers made the trip to Douglas on Sat last May 21st to take on the home side in the Central Hurling League. On a day where the harsh elements made commitment and desire more important than pure hurling ability the boys were not found wanting and they played a decent game taking the conditions into account to win on a score line of 4-6 to 3-4. Our panel on the day was Padraig O'Brien (Capt), Eoin Moloney, John O'Dwyer, Christopher Shanahan, Temitayo Abdullah, Kevin Mulcahy, Adam Daly, Ryan McConville, Garan Manley, Sean O'Leary, Christian Daly, David Mulcahy, Ryan O'Reagan, Christopher Power, Liam Franklin, Sean O'Meara, Kevin Daly &  Conor Evans,
Midleton Fe 10 hurling V Cobh
Another good night for Midleton's Fe 10 hurlers. This time a trip to Cobh on Tuesday evening 17th May was the event..
Midleton travelled with 25 players and we split the lads into two teams, one of 12 and the other of 13 players. This meant that everyone got a full game and no subs were needed and each player got 40 minutes hurling.
We knew that Cobh would be strong and that this would be a good test for our lads. Thankfully each player put in the effort and we came away happy that we held our own.
Our best wishes go to Gary Carroll and Christian Murphy who picked up knocks and needed to go off.
Well played lads and see you on Saturday for training.
Many thanks to Cobh for hosting us and we hope to see you in Midleton soon.
