We went to Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday last the 14th of August to play Na Piarsaigh in the 4th round of the SHC. We emerged victorious on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-16. The first few minutes of the game saw Na Piarsaigh go into a 2pt lead with scores coming from two of their inter county players Aisake O Hailpin and John Gardiner . We responded with the next two scores to settle into the game. As the 1st half developed Na Piarsaigh went into a 0-9 to 0-6 lead but with excellent scores from Luke O Farrell, Conor Lehane and the unerring Sean Hennessy from both play and free taking duties we went in at half time all square at 0-10 to 0-10.
We started the second half very well and went into the lead but the game remained very tight with score for score from each team. The turning point of the game was the games only goal which was expertly despatched to the net by Luke O Farrell after great teamwork which involved great vision and thought by firstly Sean Hennessy and then Tommy Wallis to give the ball to the teammate in the more advantageous position. This score was immediately added to by a great point from Luke again to put us 4 pts ahead with 12 minutes remaining. To the great credit of Na Piarsaigh they battled back to level the match. This was not before Paudie O Keefe had scored a great point from the middle of the field where he was being ably assisted by a powerful display by vice captain Seamus O Farrell. We finished the game the stronger after a free by Sean Hennessy and some great work by Paul Haughney.
The 16 players used were fantastic on the night and a credit to the club in this very sporting game. The goalkeeper Brain Behan was assured with his solid full back line and dominant half back line which recorded another clean sheet for the championship. Kieran Mulcahy also had a great game in limiting the experienced Sean OG O Hailpin. This was a great result for a young team and we now progress to face the winners of St Finbarrs and Glen Rovers in the ¼ final. We would like to thank everyone for the marvellous support at the game and look forward to your support in the upcoming game
