MIDLETON 2-28 CHARLEVILLE 2-18

Our senior hurlers opened their championship campaign for 2024 in the unfamiliar surrounds of Mourneabbey on Saturday night and came away with a great win.
Playing with the breeze in the opening half we got off to a bright start with two early points from our goalkeeper, Bríon Saunderson (one from a free and one from play) and further white flags from Alex Quirke and Davy Cremin saw us lead by 0-4 to 0-1 after six minutes.
Charleville struck back with two points in a row before we hit seven of the next eight points in the game through Conor Lehane (3), Sean O'Meara (great to see him back in the Black and White), Davy Cremin, Tommy O'Connell and Eoin Moloney to see us lead 0-11 to 0-4 after 21 minutes.
Charleville struck for the opening goal of the game on 26 minutes, to make it 0-13 to 1-6 in our favour but straight from the puck out we found the net from Paul Connaughton to see us lead by seven. Conor Lehane and Davy Cremin finished our first period scoring as we led by 1-15 to 1-9 at the interval.
It was point for point at the start of the second-half before we struck for three in a row through Mikey Finn, Cormac Beausang and Paul Connaughton to see us lead by 1-20 to 1-12 with 17 minutes to play.
Charleville got the next two points but then we hit points from Davy Cremin and Cormac Beausang and a goal and a point from Conor Lehane to put us into a 2-22 to 1-14 lead with six minutes to go.
Charleville struck for a late goal but we saw it out with points from Mikey Finn, Davy Cremin, Conor Lehane, Luke O'Farrell and Pa White to seal a good opening round win.
A big thank you to all in Clyda Rovers for having the pitch in great condition and looking after us so well on the night.
Next up are Kanturk (who beat Erins Own on Friday night) on Sunday two weeks (August 25) in Castletownroche.

COUNTY INTERMEDIATE A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1
MIDLETON 1-18 BALLYGIBLIN1-14
This was a rematch of one of the games of the year from 2023 but conditions couldn't have been much more different as wind and rain replaced the scorching heat of last year's encounter.
This game got off to the worst possible start for the Magpies as we lost our all action midfielder, Gavin Reddy, to a serious injury inside the opening minute. We wish Gavin the very best on a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back in the Black and White as soon as possible.
Playing against a very strong breeze, we got off to an excellent start with early points from Aaron Mulcahy and Kian Farmer but the North Cork men then took over and six in a row to lead by 0-7 to 0-2 after 18 minutes.
Aaron Mulcahy and Rory Hartnett swapped points with Ballygibin twice to leave the half-time score readying 0-12 to 0-6 in favour of Ballygiblin.
After the restart we really took over this came and within ten minutes of the restart we were level through points from Aaron Mulcahy (2) and Adam Daly and well taken goal from Garan Manley.
We then struck the front with five points in a row from Aidan Ryan (2), Aaron Mulcahy, Rory Hartnett and Garan Manley.
Balygibin struck back with a goal and a point to come within two with (1-15 to 1-13) with five minuts to go but we got the job done with two Aaron Mulcahy '65s and a point from play to finish up deserving four point winners.
A big thank you to all in St. Catherine's for hosting the game so well.
Next up, in two weeks time, Friday August 23, we take on Sarsfields (who beat Aghada on Sunday) in Cobh.
Scorers: Aaron Mulcahy 0-10, Garan Manley 1-1, Rory Hartnett 0-3, Aidan Ryan 0-2, Adam Daly and Kian Farmer 0-1 each.

EAST CORK OIL JUNIOR A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1
MIDLETON 1-12 SARSFIELDS 1-16
Our Junior A hurlers opened their championship campaign in Cobh on Bank Holiday Monday with a narrow defeat to Sarsfields.
The sides were level five times in the opening half and could not be separated at 0-6 each at the half-time whistle.
Sars made a very strong start to the second period with 1-2 inside the opening three minutes to give them a five point lead.
Sars led by six with seven minutes to play before a Conor Morley goal and an Evan McGrath point put us right in the mix but Sars finished stonger to win by four.
Scorers: Padraig O’Brien 0-6 f, Conor Morley 1-0, Evan McGrath 0-2, Daire Scanlon, Ryan McConville, Padraig Nagle, Tomás Dunlea 0-1 each.

FÉ16 P1 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
MIDLETON 0-20 SARSFIELDS 2-23
Our Fé16s made the short journey to Sallybrook in Glanmire on Monday evening to take on Sarsfields in the Rebel Og P1 hurling championship.
This was an evenly constest battle from the first whistle and points from Shane O'Mahony (2), Scott Dunlea, Senan Carroll and Patrick O'Dowd saw us lead by 0-5 to 0-4 after 13 minutes.
The home side then got on top and hit six in a row before a Shane O'Mahony free stopped the rot.
Sars struck back but the boys in Black and White finished the half the stronger through three Shane O'Mahony frees which saw us trail by two (0-11 to 0-9) at the halfway stage.
A Sars point from play and then two Midleton points, from Ciarán O'Brien and Shane O'Mahony, saw us close to within a point with five second-half minutes played.
But there was disaster for the Magpies two minutes later when the home team struck for two goals inside 90 seconds and from here it was always going to be a long way back.
Midleton battled all the way to the end but without being able to rattle the Sars net it was always going to be hard to peg them back.
It was great to see Cian Lawton come on and get a point in his first appearance in over 12 months due to injury.
MIDLETON: Michael Allegrini, Peader Egan, Braden Dunlea, Jason Morley, Harry Waterman, Max Murphy, Ciaran Kelly, Scott Dunlea, Alfie Hennessy, Patrick O'Dowd, Senan Carroll, Shane O'Mahony, Jack Cahill, Ciarán O'Brien, John O'Sullivan. Subs used: Cian Lawton, Darragh Mullins, Dara Birdthistle.
FÉ18 P1 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2
MIDLETON 0-25 KILLEAGH 2-13

After a good win away to Inniscarra in round one, our P1 minor hurlers made it two wins from two with a good hard earned win over Killeagh in front of a big crowd in Clonmult Memorial Park on Wednesday night.
Midleton flew out of the traps and two points each from Cian Stack, Peter Barrett, Eoghan Fraser saw us lead by 0-6 to 0-1 after nine minutes.
Killeagh got the game's first goal on 17 minutes from a 21 yard free to cut the game to 0-7 to 1-2 but we struck back with two points from Peter Barett to lead by 0-9 to 1-2 after 22 minutes.
Killeagh did their best to cut the lead by urther points from Eoghan Fraser, Peter Barrett (2), Josh Hogan and Darragh Egan saw the Magpies go into the interval in possession of a six point lead on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-5.
Again we started well after the break with a pair of frees from Peter Barrett to extend our advantage to eight but back came the visitors with a goal and three points to slash the gap to two (0-16 to 2-8) with 40 minutes on the watch.
Conor Morley and Cian Stack hit back with Midleton points before Josh Hogan, Cian Stack, Peter Barrett and Daniel Garde all rose white flags to put us 0-22 to 2-9 ifront with seven minutes to play.
Kill continued to fight to the bitter end but the home side saw it out with points from Peter Barrett (2) and Daniel Garde to secure a good win.
Midleton will now meet Sars in their final group game.
Scorers: Peter Barrett 0-12, Cian Stack 0-4, Eoghan Fraser 0-3, Josh Hogan and Daniel Garde 0-2 each, Darragh Egan and Conor Morley 0-1 each.
MIDLETON: Senan Carroll, Adam O'Connor, Eoin Ahern, Odhran Dennigan, Matthew McSweeney, Carthraigh Cronin, Tomás Dunlea, Eoghan Fraser, Darragh Egan, Sean McSharry, Luca Brodkorb, Josh Hogan, Cian Stack, Conor Morley, Peter Barrett. We had defeated Watergrasshill a couple of months ago in the semi-final and in much sunnier conditions the girls put on a superb display of attacking Camogie.
Led by Kate O'Sullivan, who hit 1-10 from play, closely followed by Rachel Ryan who chipped in with 2-6 (2-5 from play). Tia Wallace scored two superb first-half points and Sorcha Cronin finished off the scoring with the score of the night from right on the sideline.
Jade Fitzgerald was superb in goals and all the defence played well all through. An excellent performance and Yvonne Abernethy accepted the cup on behalf of a delighted Midleton contingent.
