CAMOGIE
JUNIORS
PREMIER JUNIOR LEAGUE FINAL
MIDLETON 2-11 BALLINASCARTHY 1-8
Another fantastic performance by our Premier Junior Camogie squad saw them lift the inaugural Premier Junior League in Castle Road last Wednesday.
Against a very competitive and resilient Ballinascarthy team we eventually ran out deserved six point winners.
The first-half was nip and tuck with both sides exchanging points in a very tight affair. Sadhbh Beausang, Kate Sullivan, Abbie Foley and Viv Gleeson all raised white flags and with our defence and midfield doing trojan work the first goal was going to be crucial.
It duly arrived just before half-time when a long delivery was spilled by the Ballinascarthy keeper and Viv Gleeson pounced to score from close range. With the wind at our backs in the second-half we dominated the early exchanges but did not get the scores we deserved until Saoirse Ní Theangana coolly finished to the net after great work by Sadhbh Beasuang.
Ballinascarthy came right back with a great goal and it took a brilliant Jill Connaughton save to prevent a second goal. After that we took control again and further points by Sadhbh Beausang and two from Abbie Foley saw us on top by six points at the end.
MIDLETON: Jill Connaughton, Megan Kelly, Leah Hogan, Kate Saunderson, Molly Beausang, Laura Goulding, Meghan Wallace, Lucy Wallace, Jodie Keegan O'Connell, Abbie Foley (0-3), Sadhbh Beausang (0-3), Kate O'Sullivan (0-2), Saoirse Ní Theangana (1-1), Viv Gleeson (1-2), Hannah Power, Kate Griffin, Pippa Hennessey, Emma O'Sullivan, Lucy Kenneally, Roisin McManus, Roisin O'Callaghan, Rayanna Power, Jade Fitzgerald ,Lilly Kelly, Beth Ryan.
LILY GRANT LEAGUE FINAL
MIDLETON 0-16 COURCEY ROVERS 2-14
AFTER EXTRA-TIME
We were back in Castle Road for a second time in three days on Friday night, trying to win a second league title.
Unfortunately after a titanic battle with Courcey Rovers it was not to be. The sides were deadlocked after 60 minutes on 0-14 to 1-11.
Courcey Rovers scored the only goal deep in injury-time to take the game to extra-time.
Courceys again got the vital goal in extra-time and despite a huge effort by the girls, some who were playing their second game in three days, we could not get the goal ourselves to get back in the game.
This truly was a heroic effort by everyone. Five girls, Kate Saunderson, Megahn Wallace, Saoirse Ní Theangana ,Hannah Power and Roisin McManus played in both finals and in the end we just ran out of steam to get over the line. This team has been magnificent all year and the progress they have made has been amazing to watch. We have no doubt the group will be back even more determined for the Championship later in the year.
MIDLETON: Kate Griffin , Roisin O'Callaghan , Kate Saunderson, Cara Foley, Meghan Wallace, Pippa Hennessey, Beth Ryan, Hannah Power (Capt) (0-1), Lucy Kenneally, Lily Kelly, Emma O'Sullivan, Tia Wallace ,Saoirse Ní Theangana (0-12 7f), Rayanna Power, Jade Fitzgerald (0-1), Roisin McManus, Rachel Ryan (0-2), Ciara Mc Grath, Rebecca Ryan, Rebecca Cassidy, Rebecca Cronin, Cara Pyne, Abbie Henessey.
UNDER 12S
Our U12 (black team, pictured below) played a very physical match at home against Kilworth on Tuesday night last.
Many battles were fought throughout the field with our girls using the wind to their advantage in the second half. Unfortunately Kilworth came away with the win on this occasion. Hard luck girls.
Our U12 (White team, pictured below) played their first game in Phase 3 of the League away against Inniscarra on Sunday morning. It was a beautiful morning to be playing but we had tough opponents who made for a very challenging game but despite this, the girls showed true spirit and determination and we are very proud of them.
Our U12 (black team) travelled to Innishannon last Friday evening to play Valley Rovers in their second match of phase 3. The girls dug deep and there was some wonderful camogie on display, hand passes, scoop passes and long balls. Great teamwork on the night and it paid off with a win for Midleton. Next match is against St. Finbarr’s on Saturday. Well done girls.
UNDER 13S
Our U13’s (black team) travelled to Erin’s Own last Friday evening for the last of their group games in the Imokilly Gold League. The girls were faced with very tough opponents right from the off. Our girls battled hard and never gave up just losing by a point in the end. A tremendous league campaign for the girls with this their only loss. An Imokilly League final now next for the girls. Well done to all the squad who have made this team what they are.

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 5
MIDLETON 0-18 DUNGOURNEY 2-15
Our intermediates played their first of two matches this week when they hosted Dungourney on a glorious Tuesday evening at a resplendent Clonmult Memorial Park.
Our visitors got off to a bright start and led by 1-2 to two Kian Farmer points after ten minutes.
Points from Rory Hartnett and Aaron Mulcahy (3) saw us two points down (1-5 to 0-6) after 24 minutes.
Further points from David Cremin and Aaron Mulcahy prought our half-time tally to 0-8 to Dungourney's 1-9.
One again Dungourney got a great start to the second-half, including an early goal and with 35 minutes led the visitors led by 2-11 to 0-9.
We then hit a purple patch as we struck five points in a row, through Aaron Mulcahy (3), David Cremin and Gavin Reddy to see us close tow within a goal, 2-11 to 0-14 with 15 minutes to play.
Try as we did we just couldn't find the goal that we needed and we finished with points from Aaron Mulcahy (3) and Rory Hartnett to lose out by a goal on a final score of 2-15 to 0-18 afer a very entertaining encounter.

Many thanks to Kate Saunderson for reffing the shield final between Owenacurra and Forkums. The cup final was between Saints and St. Enda’s with St. Enda’s having a slight advantage on the day. Well done to Cara who accepted the cup on behalf of the team from Shane Farmer, Nealey’s grandson. Well done to all who helped make this a day to remember for the girls.
