Safeguarding 1 & Garda Vetting

Safeguarding 1

Safeguarding 1 workshops are a mandatory requirement for coaches in all codes. Any new coaches within the club will need to participate in this three hour workshop before commencing in their role. This workshop looks at current legislation and good practice in relation to working with children and applies to anyone who has a player on their team who is under 18 years of age.

The Safeguarding 1 certificate is valid for three years.  After three years coaches must do an online refresher  (approx 1 hour in duration) which was launched on 19th October 2019. This refresher is now available for anyone who has completed a safeguarding workshop since 2016. Anyone who completed a workshop prior to 2016 is required to participate in a face to face workshop to continue coaching in the new season.

To access the online refresher course please complete the following steps;

1  gaa.ie

2 The GAA

3. Child , Welfare & Protection

4. Safeguarding tutors

5. Training

6. Online Safeguarding 1 refresher

A Safeguarding workshop will take place in the club Wednesday 22nd January from 7 to 10pm for those who need to complete this mandatory requirement. Please text Ingrid to book your place on 087 6374748. Places are limited so please book ASAP.

Garda Vetting

This is an ongoing procedure with a number of new coaches currently going through the process for the new season.  All our club members working with underage players should be vetted and as per the agm notes 2018 the old paper vetting system is no longer acceptable.  Vetting is valid for 5 years and should then be renewed.  You will be contacted by the club to remind you about renewal and we would appreciate a prompt response please.  It is important that we are fully compliant at all times with regard to mandatory requirements. Garda vetting promotes best practice in the recruitment and selection of persons to work with children in the GAA. (Vetting legislation - The National Vetting Bureau, Children & Vulnerable Persons Act 2012-2016

If you have any questions/queries on any of the above, please contact Ingrid on 087 6374748

Dr Harty Cup Midleton CBS v De La Salle Waterford

On Wednesday CBS travelled to Fraher Field in Dungarvan in a repeat of last year’s Semi Final to take on De La Salle College Waterford. Weather conditions were perfect; dry with little or no wind. Underfoot however was very heavy. CBS started well and early scores settled them well but De La Salle soon started to get their scores on the board. Only three points separated the sides at half time Midleton 1-09 De La Salle 1-06. The second half was a similar affair with not much between the sides but it was Midleton CBS who had the higher score count at the final whistle. Final score was CBS 2-17 De LaSalle 2-08. Midleton GAA Club had 7 players on the Panel. CBS advance to the semi-final and will play Christian Brothers Cork.

Best of luck to Fr. O’Neill’s and Russell Rovers

Last weekend saw Fr. O’Neill’s (Intermediate) and Russell Rovers (Junior) win their All Ireland Club Championship Semi-Final’s. Fr. O’Neill’s beat Mayo’s Tooreen (Mayo) on a score line of 0-19 1-12 with Russell Rovers beating Galway’s Micheal Breathnach, 1-26 to 1-15.
