The boys have shown great improvement in both Hurling and Football throughout the year. Thanks to all the Team of Coaches with this group for their Help and Commitment each week. On Saturday morning last we travelled up to Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the last Rebel Og monster hurling blitz of the year. We had 30 young magpies togged on what was a mixed morning weather wise. Opposition on the day included Nemo, Cloghduv, Passage, Blarney and Ballygarvan. As always with this group the enthusiasm, commitment and skills on show throughout the hour was great to watch. The progress made by all panel throughout the year has been fantastic to be involved in and we look forward to continuing that into 2020. Training will continue over the next few weeks on Tuesday’s at 6pm in the hockey pitch and Saturday mornings at 9.45am in the Main Pitch. Finally on what has been a fantastic few weeks for the club we would like to congratulate our Fé12 and Fé14 lady footballers who both won their East Cork football championships recently. We would also like to congratulate our Fé12, Fé14 and Minor hurlers and management teams on their recent County Final success. It’s great to able to show our young magpies what can be achievable down the track.

Fé12

On Sunday afternoon last our Fe 12’s travelled to Inniscarra for the Premier 1 County Hurling Final. Despite all the bad weather the pitch was in good condition. As all finals can be, we faced our biggest challenge of the year against a much fancied Inniscarra side. Before the throw in the dressing room was buzzing. We were full of confidence after our gutsy but well deserved win over Douglas the previous week. They had beaten us comprehensively earlier in the year. From the throw in we took the game to the Inniscarra, the early exchanges were tough but we settled well. All over the field we battled hard with Lochlann Stewart, Shane O Mahony in the full back line, Josh Foley and Sean Crowley winning the early battle at midfield. This ensured good ball going into the forward line with Captain Peter Barrett scoring from play and frees to settle us into the game.  At the 15 min mark it was 3points apiece with Inniscarra having a few close calls in front of goal. Despite our halfback line of Matthew McSweeney, Nicholas Coughlan and Darragh Cronin beginning to dominate, Inniscarra struck for the first goal of the game. This was quickly followed by a point to leave us 1-05 to 4pts down approaching half time. This was despite us having our fair share of the ball. This did not deter the boys Mikey Pedley, Josh Hogan and Barrett began to win vital possession. We had a goal disallowed from Cian Stack and then came a Pedley goal on the stroke of halftime. This left us 1-05 to 1-04 at the short whistle. We started the second half in whirlwind fashion and with Inniscarra seemingly still in the Dugout we scored four unanswered points, Barrett again with ( 3points ) and Mikey Pedley ( 1point ). The inside forward line particularly Stack and Cian fitzgerald , though not scoring were winning the battles which lead to scorable frees to keep the game in our favour. The home team were not going to go down without a fight, two pointed frees keep them in touch. A barrage of balls followed, landing in and ” around the house “. The bodies were put on the line from Eoin Ahern, Stewart, Coughlan and McSweeney to keep the ball out at all costs. With one of many clearances and good work by Hogan, this lead to Mikey heading for goal and he made no mistake to bury the ball to the back of the net. This gave us a good lead but we still had to defend for our lives. As Inniscarra piled forward a good clearance from Sean Crowley found its way to substitute Conor Finn, who’s hard work eventually got the ball to Matthew Herbert who finished the game as a contest as he blasted a low ball to the net. Shortly after the whistle went and to the joy of all the players, management and  supporters, we were crowned County Hurling Champions for 2019. The cup was presented to Captain Peter Barrett on behalf of the team and the celebrations began. A big thank you to all our supporters and parents throughout the year. PANEL – Diarmud Lester, Rory Hynes, Lochlann Stewart, Shane O Mahony, Matthew McSweeney, Nicky Coughlan, Darragh Cronin, Sean Crowley, Josh Foley, Josh Hogan, Matthew Herbert ( 1 – 0 ), Peter Barrett ( Captain ) ( 1-09 ) Cian Stack, Mikey Pedley ( 1-02 ), Cian Fitzgerald, Rian O Driscoll, Eoin Ahern, Conor Finn, Noah Cahill, Ben Troy.

A big well done to all the u9 camogie players on their last training session of the season last Wednesday evening 16th October . On Saturday we travelled to Killeagh for the last round of the East Cork u9 Camogie Blitzes. Our opposition were our hosts Killeagh, Youghal and Dungourney. Our young magpies were all excited to take on the other teams in good conditions for camogie. Once again, all our players showed great work ethic, team spirit and determination in all their games. Everyone performed brilliantly and we really enjoyed the well organised camogie fun. Thanks to all the supporters, coaches and our hosts Killeagh. Well done again to all the young ladies on a super effort,ye did yourselves, your families and club proud today. Up the Magpies.

U12

We played our Under 12 county final against a strong Douglas side on Saturday 19th October in front of a large attendance at the Camogie Grounds in Castle Road. It was a fantastic game of Camogie played out by two very evenly matched teams. The quality of the play from both teams was outstanding with some excellent blocking and hooking from all the girls. There was also excellent individual skill from both sides in what can only be described as a fantastic advertisement for Cork Camogie. The referee also had an excellent game letting the game flow in a game of end to end entertainment for the large crowd of supporters. Thanks to Douglas for an excellent game to Aoife for an excellent game as referee and to the parents and family members who travelled to support the team thank you for all your support during the year in what was a highly successful year for the girls. Also a big Thank you to all the coaches who gave up their time during the year for all the girls!

U14

Midleton U14 v Youghal on Saturday 12th October 2019 at Midleton GAA – County League A1 Semi-final . The Midleton U14 girls played their A1 league semi-final fixture against Youghal on Saturday 12th Oct in Midleton GAA main pitch. The girls having topped their league got home advantage and the conditions were perfect on the night with no wind or rain. Midleton started strongly and scored a well worked point from play, however despite applying severe pressure on the Youghal goal were unable to convert this domination on the score board during the early stages. The Youghal team also battled and with some of their Cork and Imokilly girls prominent throughout the first half they managed to keep in touch and Midleton led by a score of 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.  A brave Youghal team kept the pressure on Midleton throughout the second half contesting every ball and it proved a very even contest, however Midleton manage 2 goals which ultimately was the difference between both sides. Midleton ran out winners at the final whistle with a score of 2-8 to 0-6. It was a very fair and even contest between sides with a high level of skill demonstrated throughout. We now await to hear the result from the other County semi-final between Blackrock and Cobh with the final date yet to be finalized. Midleton panel for the match as follows: Jill Connaughton, Elle McManus, Tori Buckley, Jade Fitzgerald, Aoife Fitzgerald (0-4), Ruthi Hennessy, Muireann NiChonchubhair ,Emma O'Sullivan (Capt), Isabelle Nestor ,Kelly Quirke (0-1), Emily lamb (0-1), Saoirse Ni Theangana (0-1), Anna Sheehan (1-0), Lora Dineen, Rachel Ryan (1-1) ,Emma O'Neill, Amy McCarthy, Rionnach Finn, Beth Ryan, Heather White, Seana O'Brien.

U16

Hard luck to our U16 girls who also played on Saturday afternoon 19th October in Castle Road. Unfortunately it didn’t go our way on the day even though we were up by a goal by half time. Well done to you all and your management for getting this far! It was an achievement in itself reaching the Final! Congratulations to Clonakilty Camogie Club, enjoy the celebrations!!
