Junior C Hurling League

On Monday night Midleton junior C hurlers took on Aghada's second string in the east Cork division three hurling league. There was some excellent hurling on display on a beautiful east Cork evening. Aghada got off to a great start picking off some excellent scores but Midleton grew into the game allied with some excellent defending. As the half wore on the scores start to go Midleton's way and we were only 4 points down at half time. The second half again produced some excellent scores, but in the end Aghada proved too strong for us. Well done to everyone who played on the night. Ladies Football

Camogie

Another busy week for Midleton Camogie Club it started last weekend with our U10’s who put on a fantastic display on Sunday morning against a talented Douglas side. It was great to see the girls striking off their weak sides, using space, holding their positions and linking up well with each other. They also picked off some wonderful scores. The girls are growing in confidence with every game and more importantly are enjoying themselves and bonding well as a team. Thanks to Douglas for a great game and to the parents who were out in their numbers again cheering on the girls!

There was a Great effort from our U13 team v Sars(White)during the week in the 1st round of the Imokilly league. The work rate from the girls was excellent and they battled hard against a strong Sars team who came away with a win tonight.

Our U15 girls also came up against Sars on Tuesday last 9th of July at Bucklearys cross in Glanmire.

The Midleton U15 panel opened their Summer Imokilly league with a difficult away encounter against Sars on a beautiful July evening.

Midleton started strongly and won many of the early exchanges and despite applying severe pressure on the Sars goal only managed a single point and were unable to convert this early domination on the score board.

Sars countered attacked and scored a very well taken goal with their first attack of the match. Midleton rallied with another point to reduce the deficit to a single score, however Sars again showed their clinical side and buried another goal in the Midleton net towards the end of the first half. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the half and at the whistle Sars lead by 2-3 to 0-4 points.

Midleton again started the 2nd half strongly and reeled off a couple of early points to reduce the deficit to a single goal. Sars then rallied and dominated proceedings for a portion of the half, however the Midleton defence held out despite the pressure applied and no scores were conceded.

As the match entered the final few minutes, Midleton scored a wonderful goal to level the match and indeed dominated the final few minutes but could not find the winning score and the match ended in a draw 2-3 to 1-6.

We now move on to play Cobh in the next round of the Imokilly league week commencing 22nd July

Midleton Team: Jill Connaughton, Rachel McSweeney, Tori Buckley, Emma Domeny (captain), Ruthi Hennessy, Yvonne Abernethy, Aoife Fitzgerald, Emily Lamb (0-1,), Emma O’Sullivan, Saoirse Twomey, Abbie Foley (0-3), Elle McManus, Rachel Ryan, Chloe Garde (1-2), Lora Dineen, Kelly Quirke

Lastly our U9 girls played away to Dungourney, on the 10th of July. The girls played with great spirit against a strong team. The effort the girls are putting is very encouraging with teamwork, plenty of blocking, striking out of the hand and going for the sloitar all taking place in the game. We were delighted today with the support of the families who brought their girls today and created such a great atmosphere with their support. A big well done to all the players, thanks to the coaches, The referee and Dungourney for hosting us for the game. the players and coaches will be taking a well earned break from matches and training and we will return back in August.

Everyone at Midleton Camogie wishes Lucy Wallace well over the next few weeks during the cork minor championship best of luck to all the panel and management.

As always there are regular updates and match reports on our Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter. Or logon to Midleton gaa.com (ladies/Camogie) for match fixtures and Camogie news.
