Camogie (Camógaíochta)
U14 League final v Erin’s Own
We played the league final v Erin’s Own last Saturday morning in Ballinlough. After a lot of rain the day before conditions were not ideal with the ground  very wet making it very heavy underfoot. This was a hard battle from start to finish with both teams looking to finish their league campaign with a County Medal.  Erin’s Own started the scoring with a point from a free. We had scoring chances in the first half but they fell just wide of the mark and at the half time whistle we were down by four points. This team have showed great strength of character and pride in their jersey throughout this season and this was another day where they had to dig deep and fight hard to come home with the cup. We went out in the second half with our heads up determined to get back into the game and that’s exactly what we did. They  gave us nothing easy and we had to fight for every ball from start to finish. We slowly clawed back the 4 points with some great scores from play and frees and went ahead by 1 point. The game drew twice in the second half and scores were level going into injury time when we got a free just inside the 45 yard line which sailed over the bar to put us 1 point ahead. With a quick puck out from the Erin’s Own goalkeeper the ball ended up in their half forward line and they were given a free to draw the game once again. However a strong Midleton defence denied them a score and the final whistle blew to the supporter’s relief and we had a County medal to bring home. This team have had a long and successful season and deserve to have some silverware to show for it. After reaching both the ‘Feile’ and Championship ‘B’ semi-finals this year only being defeated by two points and one point respectively this was their day to succeed and win a well earned League County Title for the second year in a row.  Panel: Jill Connuaghton, Tori Buckley, Mia Tarrant, Laura Goulding, Ruthi Hennessy, Yvonne Abernethy, Aoife Fitzgerald, Emma O’Sullivan, Emily Lamb, Saoirse Twomey(0-1), Abbie Foley(0-4), Elle McManus, Holly Duggan, Chloe Garde(0-2), Ellie Collins, Lora Dineen, Rachel Mc Sweeney, Ella Murphy, Emma Domeney, Anna Sheehan, Rebecca Crowley & Rachel Ryan.

Juvenile

Fe 7
On bank holiday Monday last we travelled to Pairc Ui Chaoimh for a rearranged hurling blitz. We had 28 young magpies togged into four teams of seven a side and each team played three matches of 15 mins duration. These games were our last games under the umbrella of U7s and on the day we played matches against Erin’s Own, Whitechurch, Aghada, Passage and Valley Rovers, a great time was had by all.
Throughout the year we played in four Blitz’s, two hurling and two football and in addition to this we played many challenge games against such teams as Kitha Og, Youghal, Sars and the Barrs to name a few. We have now moved onto under 8s and have started back training in the Community Centre on Saturday mornings where last weekend we had 40 young magpies togged and ready for action.

Fe 9
For the second week in a row, we were delighted to be hosted by St Finbarr’s GAA club to take on the Senior Football County Champions 2018 in our final Football blitz of the year. As has been the case all year, we travelled with consistent and significant numbers to our hosts to take on the County Champions and also Macroom in a number of hotly contested encounters. On the day, we fielded six different teams with 37 players on what was a blustery day with some heavy down pours. We were delighted with the efforts and the skills the lads showed throughout all their matches. We were extremely encouraged that the skills we had focused on in trainings, showed a marked improvement and will stand us in good stead as we work to improve into the future. As always, a big thank you to the parents who also braved the elements to support our future stars and a big thank you to our hosts, in particular Derek McCarthy and his fellow selectors, for the wonderful organisation and warm welcome we received on the day!
