Midleton Hurling & Football, Ladies Football & Camogie Club NEWS

04 November, 2018

Fe 21
Best wishes to our Fe21 players and management when we take on Charleville in the County Football Championship semi final this coming Monday 5th in Mallow @ 8pm.
Following on from our quarter final win over Ballygarvan back in May I’m sure we didn’t expect to be playing the semi final almost six months later but that’s fixtures for you!
We will play Na Piarsaigh in the next round of the Hurling Championship.

Junior Hurling
Best of luck to Junior C’s in Round 3 of the East Cork Junior C Championship on Thursday next against Sars at the Pike Sallybrook @ 7.30pm.

Munster Post Primary Colleges Hurling
Good luck to all involved with Midleton CBS when they take on De La Salle in the Harty Cup hurling on Wednesday in Dungarvan @ 1.30pm. CBC are not playing this week but they had a comprehensive win in round one over Castletroy College by 6-19 to 0-10 with Kevin Finn at midfield.

Fixtures (Cluichí)
Monday 5th Fe21 County Football s/final v Charleville in Mallow @ 8pm
Thursday 8th Junior C Hurling Championship v Sars in the Pike Sallybrook @ 7.30pm (Please note these games may change and will be updated on our website.)

Camogie (Camógaíochta)
Our U10’s played our U11’s in end of season challenge match on Saturday afternoon at home. It was a fitting end to a busy season for both groups and a very entertaining game. Thanks to Keith Griffin for refereeing and as always to all the parents for continues support.

We played the U14 league semi-final v Ballinhassig last Saturday afternoon at home.
The weather had picked up after a very wet morning and both teams came out fighting looking for a place in the County Final. It took almost ten minutes for the first score which was a goal for us after a lot of hard work to get the ball into the forward line but a great finish sent it flying into the back of the net. After the first score we started to settle and the scores started to come with another goal and three points for us in the later part of the first half.
The rain started to fall again towards the end of the first half but we battled away denying Ballinhassig any scores before the half time whistle.
Even though we were ahead at half time Ballinhassig were working hard all over the pitch sending the ball into our back line on numerous occasions only for it to be cleared with relative ease. Another goal early in the second half put us even further ahead and our confidence started to build. This team have shown great determination, teamwork and pride in the jersey throughout a very long and successful season and were not going to give up their goal to get to a County Final easily. We went on to score another two goals and a point to secure a comprehensive win and a well-deserved place in the league County final v Erin’s Own. Panel: Jill Connuaghton, Laura Goulding, Mia Tarrant, Tori Buckley, Ruthi Hennessy, Yvonne Abernethy, Aoife Fitzgerald, Emma O’Sullivan, Abbie Foley (0-2), Holly Duggan, Emily Lamb (1-1), Elle McManus, Saoirse Twomey, Chloe Garde (3-1), Rebecca Crowley, Anna Sheehan (1-0), Rachel Mc Sweeney & Rachel Ryan.
Congratulations to Midleton Camogie coaches Dan Twohig and Kevin Smith who completed marathons in Dublin and Frankfurt respectively on Sunday last both recording personal bests.

Ladies Football (Peil na mBan)
Midleton v St Colman s U16 Ladies Football East Cork League semi final.
Final score 6-16 to 1-01. A great display of football from a team who haven’t had too many matches playing together.  The team work was great and it was obvious that the training is paying off. We will play either Cobh or Erins Own in the Final.
Team: Diane Perkins, Leah Hogan, Denise Collins, Megan Kelly, Jodie Keegan O’Connell, Vivianne Gleeson, Caoimhe Cronin, Clodagh Finn, Rachael Quirke, Lucy Kenneally (c), Katie Horgan, Amy Murray, Mischa Daly Harkin, Aoife Fitzgerald, Sadhbh Beausang & Orla Evans.

Fe 9
On a wet and windy Saturday morning we travelled to the home of newly crowned Cork Senior Football champions St Finbarr's for our last Hurling Blitz of the year.
We had a panel of 31 strong on the day, fielding two teams of eight and three teams of five.
All teams played two matches v teams from St Finbarr's, Na Piarsaigh and Laochra Og. Despite the unfavourable conditions our boys showed amazing heart and teamwork and no shortage of skills. With a never say die attitude and some fine score taking we more than equipped ourselves versus some very strong opposition. Well done to the boys for their performance on the day and once again representing the club with pride. Thanks also to the parents for turning up in their numbers to support The Magpies. A thank you also to Derek McCarthy and his fellow coaches in St Finbarr's for hosting us on the day in what was a very well run blitz. We return to Togher on Saturday for our final football blitz of the year.
