Intermediate Hurling
Last Friday evening we resumed our League campaign with a home game against Aghabullogue. Despite being nine points down at the break 1-14 to 1-05 we bravely battled back to take the lead by two points but unfortunately we couldn’t keep up the momentum and finally lost out by 1-23 to 2-15.
Team: Byran Rossiter, Ryan Mc Conville, Cillian Hurley, Cathal Gunning, Damien Daly, Shane Ryan, Eoin Moloney, Padraig O’Keeffe, Kieran Mulcahy, Kevin Finn, Jake Hegarty, Niall Walsh, Luke Finnerty, Peter Dowling & Ross O’Regan.

Junior Hurling
We played St Catherines away last week in our second game of the league and put up a great performance. A huge effort was made from one to fifteen with some great scores taken on the night. A special mention to both Sean Corcoran who scored two great goals and to Clare native Declan Mc Inerney picking off an excellent point to get his Midleton tally off to a fine start. Also welcome back to Lochlinn McCarthy just off the plane from Prague who had a fine game at half forward. Others to shine on the night were Eoin Ferriter and Henry Foster in defence and Joe Loftus, Niall Walsh and Mark O’Keeffe in attack. Finally get well soon to Coran Swayne who picked up a hand injury.
Unfortunately due to this injury we had to concede the game on the night.
Team: Coran Swayne, Brendan Ferriter, Eoin Ferriter, Jerome Curtin, Conor Evans, Henry Foster, Pat Stack, Conor O’Neill, Mark O’Keeffe, Joe Loftus, Niall Walsh, Lochlinn McCarthy, Shane Goulding, Sean Corcoran & Declan Mc Inerney.

U10:  We travelled to Dungourney on Wednesday last on a beautiful sunny evening we played a very sporting match against the hosts. Both teams put on a fine display of Camogie with some great skills and great scoring on display. Well done to all the girls. Thank to the parents for travelling.
U14:  In preparation for the 1st round of the U14 championship our U14’s played Imokilly U13’s on Sunday morning last in Midleton. This was a tough match against a divisional side and the girls put in a great effort throughout.  We travelled to Cobh on a sunny Wednesday evening in what were perfect conditions for a match. We played three 20 minutes with all girls getting plenty of match time. This was a physical match with Cobh coming out strong from the start but our girls battled hard and came away with a win, however the main purpose of both these matches was to get the girls ready for our 1st round championship match.
Ballinascarthy came to Midleton on Saturday night on another sunny evening to play our 1st round championship match. Ballinascarthy had girls in midfield and on the half forward line with great skill and pace who attacked from the start with the 1st point of the match going to Ballinascarthy after 11 min’s shortly followed by goal for Midleton.   We started to settle and scored another goal 15 min’s in followed again by a point for Ballinascarthy. Both sides scored a point from frees and just before the half time whistle we got another 1-1 from play which left the scoreline at half time Midleton 3-2, Ballinascarthy 0-3.   Shortly into the second half Midleton were awarded a penalty with one of our players brought down in the square. Ballinascarthy made a great save to put it over for a point. Both sides worked hard in the second half with each side taking every chance at scores. There was plenty of ball passed into our forwards from midfield which gave us plenty of opportunity to get some super scores in this half while Ballinascarthy were denied scores time & time again by our solid defence  and some outstanding saves from our goalkeeper.  Both teams fought hard until the end and the score on the final whistle was Midleton 7-4, Ballinascarthy 2-4.   This was a great team effort and every girl gave it their all. Ballinascarthy attacked throughout and never stopped putting us under pressure. Midleton now go straight through to the 3rd round of championship which is due to be played in August.    Team: Jill Connuaghton, Laura Goulding, Mia Tarrant, Elle McManus,  Ruthi Hennessy, Yvonne Abernethy, Aoife Fitzgerald, Emily Lambe,  Abbie Foley (0-1), Caoimhe Murray (1-1), Emma Domeney, Holly Duggan, Lora Dineen, Chloe Garde(6-2), Emma O’Sullivan, Ellie Collins, Saoirse Twomey, Tori Buckley, Rachel McSweeney, Ella Murphy, Anna Sheehan, Rebecca Crowley, Rachel Ryan.

Healthy Club
Ireland's Fittest Family is a competition reality show where families from all over the country compete against each other for the chance to win €15,000 and the title of 'Ireland's Fittest Family' all the while being mentored by our panel of respected coaches, Davy Fitzgerald, Derval O'Rourke, Anna Geary and Donnacha O'Callaghan.

In five years of Ireland's Fittest Family, we've seen two CORK families compete for the title. The Kingstons in Season 2 were successful in their bid, winning the competition. The Bailys competed in the show in Season 4 and managed to get to the semi-final, finishing in fourth place. That's a great track record for Cork families, but are there any more out there up for taking on the competition? If you’re interested RTE are currently looking for families, for further information visit: rte.ie/irelandsfittestfamily or call 01 5313865 for more information.

We contested our first football blitz on Saturday morning in St Michaels GAA grounds. We had 5 teams of 7 a side taking part and each team played 3 matches against a variety of teams. All the young Magpies displayed some great skills for their first outing and the football on display great to watch.

Fé 8
On Saturday morning last our young hurlers took to the field in Castlemartyr for a blitz.
It was an action packed morning, where we fielded three teams and each team played three games. Our Magpies again played some very tough and competitive matches against Youghal and Kiltha Og. We have been working very hard in training the last number of weeks and it was great to see our players showing what they learned on the pitch. It is great to see the enthusiasm and team spirit developing and we look forward to the coming months.

Our hurlers were in action again this week at Clonmult Memorial Park. With depleted numbers from a lot of late texts we welcomed Youghal & Lisgoold for the next round of Rebel Og Hurling leagues. On a perfect morning for hurling, the boys took on three very competitive teams. From the off the games were played at a frantic pace with the visitors putting it up to our lads physically and with a good mix of skill. The boys responded well to the challenge that was set from the opposition. Their commitment to win the dirty ball was matched with skill and determination which shone throughout all three matches. Everyone put the shoulder to wheel and as a result we came away with three wins.
Thanks to our three refs , Dan Cagney, Ryan Cahill and Conor Fitzgerald, for allowing the physical side of the game to be applied and for refereeing sensibly.
Street leagues will now begin this week and we are looking forward to more games.
Panel: Conor Sheehan, Daniel Curtain, Patrick O Dowd, Oisin Connelly, Matthew Herbert, Darragh Savage, Dara O Conchubhair, Lochlann Stewart, Darragh Cronin, Matthew McSweeney, Josh Foley, Nicholas Coughlan, Josh Hogan, Noah Cahill, Diarmud Lester, David Kelly Joey Moran, Ryhs Quill, Rian O Driscoll , Sean Crowley, Cian Stack, Conor Finn, Max Murphy & Cian Fitzgerald.

Mahon last Monday night saw a feast of scores on what was a dramatic football match between ourselves and St Michaels, the game was played in a very open and sporting manner, we opened the scoring with a point from play from the lively Adam O Connor followed by a Luca Brodkorb point before Gearoid Cashman found the back of the net. St Michaels responded with a point and a goal before we had two points from the boot of Eoghan Fraser who  along with his mid field partner played strongly throughout.  Luca raised another green flag us with a superb goal, this was to be our final score in what was a very entertaining first half while they tagged on a point and goal in the closing minutes to leave the half time score Midleton 2.04 v St Michaels 2.03. James McSweeney in goals had a fine first half, as did wing back Odhran Dennigan (captain) & full back Fionn Kelly. They began the second half strongly and on top in the possession stakes scoring a goal and a point in the opening six minutes before we responded with a fine goal from Thomas Dunlea followed by a point from Peter Barrett. This sea saw battle continued for the remainder of the second half with both teams going all out in attack and scores coming thick and fast. St Michaels added a goal before Thomas again found the back of the net as did Peter Barrett two points followed from Eoghan Fraser before they scored again with a point and a goal before Luca added a point to his tally. In the closing minutes there was a scoring spree with the match finishing on an incredible score line of St Michael’s 6.07 to Midleton 6.08, when the supporters could finally draw a breath.  Well done to our lads and thanks to the supporters who travelled on the night.

On Saturday afternoon we travelled to Douglas in the Premier 1 Hurling league, conditions were ideal for hurling we began the half in a very determined fashion with our half back line of Paddy Walsh, Cathraigh Cronin and Connor Williams stifling most of our opponents attacks as a result our mid fielders Thomas Dunlea and Eoghan Fraser were getting plenty of ball to our impressive looking forward line. Wing forward Peter Barrett opened our scoring with appoint from play quickly followed by two Daniel Garde frees. Further strong play from James McSweeney and Darragh Egan has us well on top, A Daniel Garde 65 found its way to the back of the Douglas net to leave us in a very strong position approaching half time.  Luca Brodkorb added an excellent point from play but they finished the half strongly scoring a point from play and a goal bound shot was knocked over the bar for a point by the vigilant Odhran Rabbitte to leave the half time score Douglas 0.02 to Midleton 1.04 .
Douglas began the second half strongly knocking another pointed free Adam O’Connor responded with a very well taken point from play this proved to be an important score as they  immediately responded with a goal and two points from frees and were denied a goal from play by a great save form Odhran. Fionn Kelly and Ben Fitzpatrick and captain John Paul McManus were also having excellent outings in our defence clearing an amount of ball.   Luca added a point from play followed by a goal from Daniel Garde who was now operating at full forward. Douglas added another point from a free but a Thomas Dunlea 65 left us in a commanding position as the clock ticked down.   A Jack Foley goal was quickly followed by another from Daniel Garde to leave the result in no doubt. They added another point before the final whistle to finish on a score line Douglas 1.07 to Midleton 4.07.  This was another excellent game of hurling both side committed to attacking hurling it was very encouraging to us to see our scoring chances particularly from play being converted. Well done to all.

Last Wednesday night we played a home hurling league game against Ballygarvan. It was perfect conditions for a game of hurling with the pitch in excellent condition.
Again this team showed great effort and commitment right from the start. We grabbed the opening scores with seven points from Evan McGrath, Tj Murphy, Michael Roe and four from Mikey Finn. At this stage they came back into the game with two quick fire goals from their pacey centre forward. We switched a few positions around the pitch to tighten up the defence in order to try and stop this treat. For the reminder of the first half both teams exchanged points with our scores coming from, David Greene, Kamil Noack and Mikey Finn. This made the half-time score Midleton 0:10 to Ballygarvan 2:02.
At half-time we introduced a few subs in order to freshen up the team. The conditions were very warm on the evening and we also had some players that had played a school match that afternoon and more had a school final the next day. We started the second half with the same ferocity, fighting for every ball.  We were never behind in this game but they pushed us all the way. Our opponents were constantly pushing for goals, but our defence put in a tremendous display constantly denying them. We did concede a goal under the pressure, but our forwards were also putting in a massive effort. We kept the points ticking over with scores from TJ Murphy, Tiernan Roche and two more from Mikey Finn. Going into the last few minutes the game was very tight. At this point Midleton scored a vital goal from Tiernan Roche. Our opponents had to continue to go for goal and with five minutes remaining a last-ditch tackle resulted in us conceding a penalty. This would have put the game level on the score board, but it was brilliantly saved by Zach Smith.  We closed out our scoring with two fine points from Mikey Finn and Tiernan Roche, they did find the net in injury time, but we ran out winners by two points.
This game summed up the tremendous attitude and ability that this team has in abundance. Every player on the night gave their all and the win was well deserved. We don’t play again for two weeks, we have a home game against Douglas on the 6th June.
Our panel for the game was Mikey Finn, Ben Kenneally, David Greene, TJ Murphy, Tiernan Roche, Rian De Barra, Michael Roe, Odhran Prenter, Brian O’Connell, Cathal Beausang, Dara Scanlon, Alex Moloney, Niall Lang, Tadgh O’Leary Hayes, Darragh Fitzgerald, Evan McGrath, Alex Howard, Kamil & David Noack, Evan McGrath & Zach Smith.

Davy Hogan Street Leagues
Our annual Davy Hogan Street Leagues are set to commence this Wednesday the 30th of May at 7.00pm on the main pitch.  The Davy Hogan Street leagues are one of the annual highlights of the Juvenile Calendar. Over the past number of years we have run into issues in September with the weather, this year we decided to run the tournament earlier.  As we all know there are no guarantees with the Irish weather but hopefully we won’t experience any weather disruptions to the tournament schedule!  The tournament is for our Fe10, Fe11 Players and those who qualify on the age from our Fe12 players.  This year we have 88 players who are eligible to take part.  Two tournament co-ordinators were sought by the Juvenile Committee to oversee the tournament, Ed Coughlan (Fe11) and Tom Casey (Fe10)  have very kindly agreed to oversee the tournament. A draw for the teams took place in the presence of the Fe10 & F11 Team Managers and Tournament Co-ordinators.  There are six teams in total.  All players and coaches have been assigned to their various teams.  Each team will play five league matches with results kept and updated after each round.  The first round of matches is set to take place on Wednesday the 30th of May @ 7pm.  The second round of matches is set to take place on Monday the 11th of June @ 7pm.  All players are involved on Finals Day which is arranged for Saturday the 23rd of June.  Players will meet and assemble that morning in Market Green and parade behind a piper to the main pitch.  The 5th leagues matches are due to be run off at 10.30am where the top two teams will progress to the final which is to be played at 11.30am.
A dedicated page has been created on the club website.  This page outlines all details of the tournament rules, dates, teams, mentors and tournament dates.  As the matches are played the scores will be updated that evening to the website.  The page can be found on the Juvenile Section on the main club website.  We wish all our juvenile players an enjoyable tournament.
