Juvenile

Fe 13
Our footballers got their league campaign off to a winning start after a hard fought victory over St. Nicks on Saturday afternoon. On a heavy pitch our opponents got off to the better start and went into an early lead. It took our lads the best part of twenty minutes to blow off the cobwebs, but once they did the scores followed and we managed to take a lead into half-time, 2-04 to 1-04.
The second half was nip and tuck with the lead changing a number of times. With the clock ticking down we found ourselves with a two point deficit when our marauding wing back Niall Lang launched a high ball into the Nicks area. Luckily for us it dropped just under the crossbar for what was to be the winning score.
The most encouraging aspect of this game was the never say die attitude of our lads who fought to the final whistle to secure a deserved victory. There was never more than three points between the teams and credit must also be given to our opponents for the way they approached the game. We still have plenty of work to do and the concession of numerous silly frees could have cost us on another day.
In addition to the aforementioned Niall, other good performers were Evan McGrath and Sean Fraser who scored a poachers goal at a vital stage of the game. Thanks to the five Fe12 players that ensured we were able to field a team.
Full time Midleton 4-07 v St. Nicks 4-06.

Fe 14
In preparation for the start of the Fe14 Premier 1 Football league that starts next Saturday 4th March our Fe 14’s travelled to Castlemartyr on Saturday last 25th February to take on Kiltha Og. Fortunately the rain that threatened throughout never arrived and so conditions were ideal for the duration of the game. We started very brightly, Adam Fay, Ciarmhac Smyth and Evan Kelly dominated from the half back line. Numerous times they broke forward and linked up well with Alex Quirke and Liam McGrath who were playing at midfield. Liam McGrath had  our first score from play, a well taken point. This was followed by a point from Cian Murray and two points from Darragh McCarthy. The last score of the half was a goal from Ben O’Neill. Our forwards gained a lot of possession in the first half and got into some good scoring positions but their conversion rate was a bit low. The score at half time was Midleton 1-04 v Kiltha Og 0-01. They roared into the game in the second half registering a number of early scores to close the margin between the two teams. But again we responded well. Unfortunately the young Magpies were again not able to convert a lot of their possession. Kane Rowlands did kick one good point. Niall Corcoran, Kane Rowlands, Evan McCarthy contributed well throughout the second half.
Final score Midleton 1-05, Kiltha Og 1-08. Panel: B Saunderson, J O’Sullivan, N Corcoran, N Fitzgerald, A Fay, C Smyth, E Kelly, A Quirke, L McGrath (0-01), C Murray (0-01), D McCarthy (0-02), K Rowlands (0-01), R Hartnett, P Magan, B. O’Neill (1-00), E McCarthy, J Condon & R Gies.
