Midleton Gaa, Camogie & Ladies Football Club News

Inter County Hurling
Last Saturday evening the Cork senior hurlers played Clare in the first round of the Allianz League in Pairc Ui Rinn. Before a crowd of 5,500 on a bitterly cold night and playing with more passion and desire than the opposition Cork had a well deserved win on a scoreline of 0-21 to 1-11. The score at the break was 0-08 to 1-03 in Corks favour.
Killian Burke played at corner back and Paul Haughney was a late substitute. 
They play Dublin in Round 2 next Saturday evening in Pairc Ui Rinn @ 7pm.

Junior Football
Our footballers got their East Cork League campaign off to a great start last Sunday when they overcame the challenge of hosts Erins Own in Caherlag by 1-06 to 1-04.
Team: Patrick Dunlea, Gavin Bagnell, Eoin Walsh, Sean O’Farrell (0-01), Seanaidh Symth, Declan Ryan (0-03 frees), Billy O Shea, Aidan Ryan, Padraig O’Farrell, Darren Quirke, Cormac Beausang (0-02), Alan Stanton, Brian O’Sullivan (1-00), Alywin Kearney & Brendan Ferriter. Sub used Eoin Ferriter.  
We play Russell Rovers next Saturday in Shanagarry @ 3pm.   

Special General Meeting
There is a Special General Meeting this coming Wednesday evening at 8pm in the Gaa Club to discuss Membership for the coming year, all member’s are requested to attend.

Last Man Standing
This past weekend the second round of fixtures took place, victory’s for Manchester United, and Arsenal ensured that most of last weeks survivors will make the third week.

Health & Wellbeing
REMINDER - Midleton GAA Health & Wellbeing committee has arranged a presentation for Parents on Internet Safety & Cyberbullying. This will take place in the Club on Monday next the 13th of February at 7.30pm €2 cover charge tea/coffee will be served – All Welcome

Ladies Football
Midleton Ladies Football will hold their annual Social Night on February 25th at 7.30pm in the Gaa Club. All girls and their families are welcome to attend for an evening to catch up and reminisce on the year we had as a Club
Orlagh Farmer is holding a one day Fundraiser Football Camp on Thursday 23rd February from 10-2pm. Keep and eye on Facebook for all updates on the Club.

Camogie
Well done to Lucy Wallace who lined out at corner forward for Cork U16’s last week in Charleville v Limerick. Training: Under 14’s & Under 16’s:  Tuesday evenings 6pm - &pm Midleton All Weather pitch and on Friday evening in Midleton Community Centre,   7pm -8.30pm. Under 12’s and Under 10’s:  Tuesday evenings 6pm -7pm, Midleton All weather Pitch. Under 6’s and Under 8’s will return to training in March in Midleton Community Centre. Lotto
Our Lotto Jackpot was €9,200, there was no winner, the numbers were 7,15,20 &26, the Lucky Dip winners were Mary Lyons, Michael Allan, Lil O’Driscoll, Joyce Murphy and Amy O’Driscoll, next week’s Jackpot will be €9,400.
Tickets are on sale at the Club Bar, O‘Neills Bar, Linehan’s Bar, Maple Leaf Bar, O’ Farrell’s Butchers, Frank Murphy Butchers, Pat Walsh Paints, Chadwicks, Teach Beag & Niall Mac’s Bars.

BINGO takes place next Friday evening @ 8pm in the GAA Pavilion with a weekly guaranteed Jackpot of €1,000.

Juvenile

Code of Behaviour Underage
Midleton Juvenile, Midleton Camogie and Midleton Ladies Football Club’s have adopted a Code of Behaviour for our Underage players aged 5 to 18 years. The document outlines the main points of the code of ethics, conduct & practice for all club officials, officers, members, mentors, players, parents/guardians associated across all Clubs. We encourage all our members to review this information and familiarise yourself with the standards expected by and in the club. membership

Child Protection & Welfare Training Course
To facilitate the new coaches across the clubs Midleton GAA will host a Child Protection & Welfare Training Course on Tuesday the 21st of February from 6.45 to 9.30pm at Midleton GAA Club. Child Protection & Welfare Training together with Garda Vetting and Foundation Training certification are mandatory requirements to coach in Midleton GAA Club.

Benchmarking Rewards Conference
On Saturday last, February 11th Midleton GAA Club were presented at Rebel Og’s Benchmarking Conference at Nemo Rangers GAA Club with their Gold Accreditation for Coaching and Games best practice.  To accept the award on behalf of Midleton GAA Club were Martin Mc Sweeney Coaching Officer, Ingrid Connaughton Child Welfare Officer and Ruth Walsh Juvenile PRO.  It was a very informative afternoon.  Noel Furlong took a number of players through games based training sessions, Jack Fitzgerald from our Fe15 panel took part in these session.  Well done Jack! A video of the session has been unloaded to the coaching corner.  Presentations and addresses were made by Brian Cuthbert, Cork GAA Chairman Ger Lane and Kevin O’ Donovan.  All attendees received copies of the games based training session and the newly published ‘Rebel Óg Coaching Club Manual 2020 “Rebel Rising” Play and Stay with Cork GAA.  

Play Us GAA
Play Us GAA is a mobile App that makes it easy for Coaches to get more games for their players.  Arrange home or away matches, challenge, blitz or tournament.  Mark O’ Donovan of Bantry Blues GAA attended the benchmarking conference in Cork yesterday and advised that a number of clubs have already signed up to use the App.  All you have to do is download PlayUs and register your team’s details.  The App is free to download, get one game for free and organize unlimited games for a year for a fee of €3.99. Workshops for Coaches of Youth Players - Physical Preparation of Youth Players (13-18)
Dr Wesley O’ Brien (UCC) will host a series of workshops aimed at coaches of youth players aged 13-18 years old at three different venues during the month of February.
These workshops will be practical sessions where coaches can watch Wesley roll out a typical coaching session through exercises and routines, specifically aimed at preventing injury and improving overall physical fitness among youth.  Club coaches will be able to explore standard physical fitness norms for teenage players and measure key performance indicators over time. Topics to be covered;
Warm-up considerations, Injury prevention strategies, On-field body weight conditioning exercises for training, Assessing players physical fitness for coaches.

The Workshops will take place at three different venues;

Clonakilty                   13th February 7pm - 8.30pm

North Mon AG           15th February 6.30pm - 8.00pm

Mallow                        21st February 7pm - 8.30pm

Foundation Training Course, Midleton GAA Club
We are running a Foundation Training course at the Club on Tuesday the 28th of February and Tuesday the 7th of March at 7pm.  The course will be facilitated by a Rebel Og Tutor.  In order to attend Foundation Training you need to Garda Vetted and have completed the Child Protection Awareness Training. Please note that this is will be the only Foundation Course running at Midleton GAA this year.

Rebel Og Nursery Workshop
On Saturday 25th February Rebel Og Coaching will host a Coaching Nursery (4-7 yr olds) Coaching/Best Practice Workshops in RANDAL ÓG followed by one in MALLOW (a choice of 2 venues to pick from).
Stephen Behan: Former GPO of Clontarf GAA (Biggest Nursery in Dublin)
Kevin Murray: Coaching Movement and experienced child coach
Dr Wesley O’ Brien: Lecturer and expert in Child/Youth Movement

This is a can’t miss event for anyone coaching or teaching children between the ages of 4 and 7. Some information will be suitable for older ages, so mentors of all groups are welcome.
