Juvenile

Fe 13
We played our last hurling Premier 1 League game of the season recently in Togher against St Finbarr’s. The U12 hurling final last year was against the same team and in a pulsating encounter, were lucky to come out on top. Luckily things have not changed much over the last 12 months. These two teams are pushing each other every year and as a result both outfits will, hopefully, reap the rewards in years to come. We started this latest episode very strongly. Darragh McCarthy fired over a point, which was quickly followed by a goal from the ever reliable Phelim Magan. Darragh then added a goal, which he created himself by winning a ball in the middle of the field before soloing forward and striking the ball neatly giving the goalie no chance. Alex Quirke had the next two scores for the Magpies, the first was a goal very similar to Darragh’s goal earlier in the game where he collected the ball in the middle of the field and soloed through the heart of the Barr’s defence before rifling the ball to the roof of the Barr’s net. The second of his scores was a point from a 65. Finally the Barr’s thundered into the game, as they notched up six points in a row. This was a period of intense hurling and great commitment from both teams. Our  final score of the first half was another point from Darragh McCarthy. But before the half was over the Barr’s added a goal and a point. This gave the Barr’s a one point lead at the half way stage 2-04 to 1-08.
The second half had only started when the Barrs had the ball in our net. At this stage they were playing the better hurling and we required all of our experience to ‘weather this storm’. Only for some wonderful saves from Brion Saunderson we could have found ourselves out of this game. Midway through the second half they went seven points up. That’s when the steel in this Midleton team started to come through. Starting with a James Condon point we  fought our way back into this game. Darragh McCarthy and Neil Fitzgerald closed the gap even further with a point each. Rory Hartnett got the crucial goal and Darragh tied up the scores with the final point of the game. Shortly afterwards the ref blew the final whistle. The final score was Midleton 4-11 v St Finbarr’s 4-11.
Panel: B Saunderson, J O’Sullivan, S Bohan, E McCarthy, A Fay, L. McGrath, N Corcoran, D Codd, A Quirke (1-04), C Smyth, D McCarthy (1-05) E Kelly, C Murray, K Rowlands, N Fitzgerald (0-01), R Hartnett (1-00), P Magan (1-00), J Condon (0-01), B. Fe 16
Premier 1 Hurling Championship Preliminary Round: Midleton 1-22 v Inniscarra 3-6
The preliminary round of the Fe 16 Hurling Championship was held recently at Delaneys Ground in Kilbarry. This was an eagerly awaited game that we dominated from the start, registering some sweet scores from all angles. The first half was the best hurling that we  played all year. At half time the score was 1-14 to 0-4 and the game was as good as over. Yet in the second half Inniscarra stuck to their guns and constantly sought to threaten for scores which resulted in them "drawing" the second half scoring 3-2 to our 1-8. Taking the foot off the accelerator and conceding the second half goals are items to work on for the next game. This game also doubled up for League Points.
Team: Ryan O Riordan, Alan Power, Christian Murphy, David Scanlon, Cormac O Brien, Ciaran Evans, Sean O Sullivan, Tommy O Connell, Cian Murray, Kian Farmer, Aaron Mulcahy, Gary Carroll, Kevin Finn, Arthur Nganou, Ross O Regan, Cian Crowley, Sam Quirke, Craig Barry, Fergus Wade, Coleman Quinn, Griffin Hurley, Loic Nguefang, Adam O Connell, Ronan Lynch, Evan Rowlands, Jake Shanahan & Mark Daly

Fe 16 Premier 1 Hurling Championship Quarter Final: Midleton 4-17 v Bride Rovers 1-10
This Quarter Final pairing at Caherlag saw us continue our impressive form in our quest for Championship honours this season. Despite missing a few players through injury / holiday commitments we saw off Bride Rovers challenge fairly easily with an impressive score of    4-17, while hitting 18 wides at the same time. Good to see also that we tightened up our defensive play while we were still threatening the opposition goal fairly constantly throughout. We now face Douglas in the semi final on Thursday 4th in the Mardyke @ 6.30pm.
Team: Ryan O Riordan, Alan Power, Sean O Sullivan, Christian Murphy, Cormac O Brien, Ciaran Evans, David Scanlon, Tommy O Connell, Cian Murray, Kian Farmer, Aaron Mulcahy, Gary Carroll, Kevin Finn, Ross O Regan, Cian Crowley, Sam Quirke, Craig Barry, Fergus Wade, Coleman Quinn, Griffin Hurley, Arthur Nganou, Loic Nguefang, Adam O Connell, Ronan Lynch, Evan Rowlands, Jake Shanahan & Mark Daly.
