Juvenile

Rang 3 Blitz
Last Friday in the club the 3rd class pupils from the Midleton primary schools took part in a blitz. Thanks to all those who took part and helped out on the day. The blitz is part of the clubs ongoing and extensive schools coaching programme. The club provides six hours coaching to local schools per week throughout the year. The success of this is reflected in the numbers of young players in the club, it is also an opportunity for boys that don't play at club level to experience and enjoy hurling and to partake in a bit of fun and exercise with their school mates. The success of such a programme relies on the cooperation of the schools to this end the club would like to acknowledge the commitment of  liaison officers from the participating schools, Jim O' Sullivan CBS, Criostoir O' Cathaisgh Gealscoil Mhainistir na Corann, Shane McSweeney St John  Baptist, Barra O'Tuama Ballintotis NS. Club coaching officer and organiser Martin McSweeney would like to thank the club for providing its magnificent facilities for the blitz and G.D.A. Sean Crowley for his ongoing support and help.

Fe12
The full hurling panel travelled to Dundrum (Knockavilla / Donaskeigh Kickham's GAA club) in Tipperary on Saturday last to compete in a Blitz organised by the local club. We entered two teams into the tournament and got a great response from the players and mentors. Thirty-one of our players travelled to play. We competed against clubs from Tipperary, Limerick and Clare. Our first game started at 11 am in the morning and our last game finished at ten minutes after 5 pm. It truly was a feast of hurling that everyone enjoyed. Both our teams came away as winners: one team won the Plate final while the other team won the Cup Final.
We finished off the day with dinner in the local golf club. La iontach a bhi ann!

We played in a top of the table Premier 1 Hurling clash last Wednesday night versus Douglas. The match was played in Midleton on a perfect night for hurling. Both teams have played against each other on number of times over the last few years and there has never been more than one score between them at the end of a match. Wednesday’s match was to prove to be no different. From the minute the ball was thrown-in all players gave full commitment. Midleton were first on the scoreboard and by half time held the lead by two points. The second half proved to be as close and competitive as the first half and the decisive score of the game came midway through it when Darragh McCarthy scored a goal from a 20 meter free. The young Magpies held on to win on a score line of 1-06 to 0-07. Brion Saunderson, James O’Sullivan, Shay Bohan were best for Midleton on the night.

St Vincent’s were our opposition last Tuesday night in the Premier 2 Hurling League. The game was played in Holyhill. The first half of the game was a very even game of hurling. We were dominant at times and could have had more scores on the scoreboard had we brought a bit more luck with us. At half time we led by three points and turned around to play into a very stiff breeze. This proved to be an important factor as Vincent's made good use of it. We put up a spirited performance but ultimately we came up short on a scoreline of Midleton 1-06, St Vincent's 4-05.

Fe13
Our hurlers welcomed Ruairi Og from Cushendall Antrim last Friday night for two challenge games. The games were very entertaining and useful for both sets of selectors. Many thanks to both Conor Lehane and Killian Burke who spoke to the players and signed autographs. Afterwards the players and their parents were served light refreshments and a fantastic spread of food kindly supplied by our player’s parents and the Boston Diner in the Lounge.
