Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Junior Football
Our footballers continued their good form with a very clinical victory over Bride Rovers in the quarter final of the East Cork Championship last Friday evening in Killeagh. In atrocious weather conditions we took the iniatitive right from start, we scored some great points and eventually all our possession told when John Keane smashed the ball to the net. We led at halftime by 1-07 v 0-02.
In the second half we controlled the game sensibly and ran out comfortbale winners by 1-11 to 0-05. Well done to the players and selectors for their performances and commitment over the three rounds, we can all now look forward to a semi final v Erins Own later in the year.

JUVENILE  NOTES

Fe 12
U12 Premier 1: This week the P1 hurling game was against Ballincollig. It was played last Monday evening in Ballincollig. We traveled without a few regulars and so it was going to be an interesting game for the coaches to see how the team would react. From the start defences were on top and scores were proving very hard to come by. Niall Corcoran was having one of his best performances in a Midleton jersey. He was ably assisted by Neil Fitzgerald and Rory Hartnett. At half time the Magpies were leading by 3 points to 1. On the resumption Midleton again had the upper hand but were finding it hard to get the score board moving. Eventually the break-through came when Phelim won  a great ball passed it to Rory of deftly hand passed it to Ronan who finished it with aplomb to the net. Tis proved to be the decisive score and Midleton held on to win on a score line of 1-05 to 0-01. The P1 hurling team have now recorded four wins from four games.
Midleton Panel: Ronan Gies, Liam McGrath, Evan McCarthy, Fintan Greenwood, James O’Sullivan, David Connolly, Ciarmhac Smyth, Darragh Codd, Shay Bohan, Cian Murray, Darragh McCarthy, Neil Fitzgerald, Ben O’Neill, Alex Quirke, Evan Kelly, Rory Hartnett, Phelim McGann,  Brion Saunderson, Niall Corcoran, Tomas Lambe, Darragh Mooney, Kelvin Barry.
U12 Premier 2:  The P2 game against Cohh was on Thursday. We started very strongly and both John Spellman and Phelim McGann were very unlucky not to register a goal each in the first 5 minutes. For the remainder of the half our scores came primarily from placed bells taken by Ben. The introduction of David Cremin and Tiernan Roche added a running dimension to the Midleton attack and at half time we were unlucky to be behind. The second half was more of the same with the young Magpies giving a great account of themselves.
Currently they have played three games in the league and have one win.

U12 Versus Kilmacud Crokes: Sunday morning saw the U12 Kilmacud Crokes team visit us for a game. We had a fantastic festival of hurling.
