Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Fe21 County Hurling Final

What a game, what a performance and what a year!
On Sunday last in Pairc Ui Chaoimh the young Magpies completed a fantastic double by defeating Blackrock by 4-13 v 3-12 after a pulsating encounter.
From the very start the game was free flowing and end to end stuff, in perfect conditions for hurling the spectators were treated to a scoring fest of 7 goals and 25 points throughout the hour. Goals were the order of the day in the first half with Conor Lehane opening our account from a free then to be followed by two beauties from Brian “Bud” Hartnett, Blackrock replied with two of their own to leave the score at halftime 3-04 to 2-07. In the second half the lead changed several times but when Michael Abernethy struck for an opportunist goal after good work by Brian O Sullivan it looked like our day. However the excitement didn’t finish there, a goal from Blackrock had them back in the game with ten minutes to go, some tremendous defending and excellent point scoring from play and free’s from captain Conor Lehane ensured that the Dick Barrett Cup would sit pretty together with the Sean Og Murphy Cup in Mainistir na Corann once again having done so 30 years ago in 1983.
The final score was Midleton 4-13 v Blackrock 3-12, the Cup was presented to our wonderful captain Conr Lehane by Bob Ryan Chairman of the Cork County Board.
