Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Junior Hurling
Last Sunday evening in Round 2 of the East Cork Championship at Castlemartyr we were very fortunate to defeat a gallant Killeagh side with a very late goal from Padraig O Farrell. Credit though to our lads who never gave up and we defended well in the end to hold out for the victory.
We now face Erins Own next Friday/Saturday in the next round.
Final Score: Midleton 2-13 v Killeagh 1-15
Team: Christopher Dunlea, Neil O Regan, Eoin Ferriter, Liam Clohessy, Darren Quirke, Killian Burke, Leslie Coughlan, Sean O Farrell, Shane Ryan, Padraig O Farrell, Aidan Ryan, Ian O Brien, John Keane, Killian Hurley & Michael Abernethy. Subs Declan Ryan for Killian Hurley & Davy O Brien for John Keane.

Minor Hurling
Our minors played two Premier 1 Championship games in the last week, on Monday 1st we were defeated by Mallow in the first round replay at UCC by 1-11 v 1-15, we didn’t play to our potential and unfortunately two players from both sides received their marching orders also.
In the second round we played St Finbarr’s last Friday evening in Kilbarry and we won on a score of 1-13 v 1-11. At halftime we led only by a single goal despite playing with a strong breeze but we tightened up at the back and a goal from Michael Abernethy kept us in front until the final whistle. We now play Ballincollig (victors over Na Piarsaigh in the first round) this Tuesday evening in the Mardyke UCC @ 8pm.
Team v St Finbarr’s: Byran Rossiter, Billy O Shea, Gavin Bagnell, Luke Morrissey, Alan Stanton, Darren Quirke, Luke Dineen, Killian Deady, Sean O Farrell, Cormac Beausang, Patrice Tschmanga, Josh Deady, Lochlinn Mc Carthy, Michael Abernethy & Robert Williams. Subs used Conan Finnegan for Mc Carthy.

Juvenile Notes

Kellogs Cul Camp
The Cul camp for boys co coordinated by Pa Beausang took place all last week in glorious sunshine in the main field. The was a great turnout with over 160 boys participated in fun and games for the week all overseen by various coaches including our Senior hurlers Padraig O Shea, Padraig O Keeffe and Conor Lehane assisted by some minor and juvenile players. The highlight of the week was the visits of both Cork footballer Damien Cahalane and hurling captain Patrick Cronin. All participants in the camp received a ruck sack and a full kit of playing gear. Well done to Pa and all the committee for organising such a great week.
