Another historic milestone for Midleton GAA when history was recorded on St Patrick’s Day 1988 when the Magpies took the All Ireland Club Hurling Championship title with a 3.08 to 0.09 victory over Athenry from Galway. The Magpies had led by 2.05 to 0.06 at the interval. A superb defence, another great performance from Ger Power and two goals from Kevin Hennessy brought the title back to Cork for the first time since 1979. Midleton’s scorers were K Hennessy (2.03), C O Neill (1.01), J Fenton (0.02), G Fitzgerald & T Mc Carthy (0.01) each.

BINGO for all every Friday night in the GAA Pavilion from 8pm, everyone welcome.

Juvenile Notes

Fe 12
On Thursday the 7th our FE12 footballers travelled to Riverstick to play Sliabh Rua in the first game of the Rebel og league. We travelled with 21 players so we played one match 11 aside and the other 10 aside. The matches were played under lights on a very wet and foggy evening, but this did not seem to bother both teams. We were slow to start in both games but as time went on we seemed to improve. Team 1 lost by 2pts and Team 2 ended up drawing. Team 1 James Gillespie,JP O Callaghan,Alex Quirke,Darragh Crowley,Charlie Walsh,Samuel Quirke,Conor Fitzgerald,Eoghan Hegarty,Eabhan De Barra,Tim O Sullivan.Team 2.Ellis Rowlands,Ethan Daly,Adam Meade,Cian Crowley,Darragh Desmond,Paul connaughton,Kane Rowlands,Christian Murphy,Aaron Coughlan,Dan O Sullivan,Rory Donegan.Well done to all the lads on the night and thanks to the parents for the support.

Fe 11
Our  FE 11 footballers travelled to Glanmire for the start of our 2013 football league campaign. On the day we had Thirty players so we had three even teams of Ten, Twenty five minutes a side was the order of the day.We played against a stiff breeze in the first half so keep ball was vital if we wanted to compete. All the lads worked very hard for one another which was a joy to see and some fantastic scores were taken. We went in at half time in good shape ahead in two games and down a few points in the other. The second half of all three games was going to be a different affair and the lads knew Glanmire were going to give it everything in a bid to get their campaign off to a good start. Once again our lads played some fantastic football especially their short passing and running off the ball. Some fantastic individual performances were to be seen from both sides to many to name and all three Referees were delighted with the behaviour of all the lads involved. In the end we ran out winning two games and losing one. As a group we are delighted with the never say die attitude these players are showing every time they take to the field. Also a big thank you goes to the the four Fe 10s  Niall Corcoran, Cian Murray, Felim Mc Gann, and Ben O'Neill who togged out at short notice and gave it everything. Thanks lads.
Thanks again to Glanmire.

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield and who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton.
Please ensure that your child has a gum shield for every training session and game.

Training
Most teams are back training now following the Christmas break. Training times can be found on the club website www.midletongaa.com   . On the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times have been posted. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
