Junior B Hurling Final
Midleton 1-13 Sarsfields 1-04
Last Saturday saw Midleton Junior B hurlers win the East Cork final and in doing so made it four titles in a row. In the end it was a more comprehensive win than we could have hoped for but it was a fully merited victory on the day. Midleton had first use of the wind and though both teams started brightly it was Midleton who were putting the scores on the board. We got a good break half through the first half when a Darren Quirke free went all the way to the net. However Sarsfields responded with a goal of their own. Midleton continued to hurl strongly and the accuracy of the forwards was in contrast to our opponents who drove a lot of wides. Niall Madden was to the fore in the first half with three points from play and all Aengus Cooter chipped in with two more. At half time we led by 1-10 to 1-03.
Following a heavy shower of rain the wind died somewhat and it was of no great benefit to Sars in the second half. Sars started the stronger in the second half but again uncharacteristically their shooting let them down. Midleton steadied the ship with points from Ian Fitzpatrick and Philip O’Neill. With ten minutes to play Midleton enjoyed a commanding lead and the goals Sars required never looked like coming. A fourth Niall Madden point ensured that in the end we had nine points to spare. Interestingly all thirteen of our points came from play
Midleton had a lot of strong performers on the day. Christy Dunlea had a busy game in goal but could not be faulted for the one goal he conceded. Captain Pat Fox led by example, Billy O’Shea was to the fore throughout, ably assisted by Alwyn Kearney. Darren Quirke, Neil O’Regan and Jerome Curtain gave very little away. Our two midfielders, Niall Madden and Sean O’Farrell,  were outstanding getting onto a lot of breaking ball and contributing five points from play. Brian O’Sullivan worked himself to a stand still and set up several scores. Aengus Cotter showed all his experience and Philip O’Neill get two points for his efforts. The full forward line of Ian Fitzpatrick, Keith Ryan and Gavin Hurley all got on the scoresheet.

After the game East Cork Board Chairman Michael O’Brien presented the cup to team captain Pat Fox. Pat paid special tribute to the team mentors and in particular manager Gavin Power who has now won four B titles in a row in addition to completing two C Championships in a row last weekend.

Juvenile Notes

Junior Infants
This Saturday 3rd November saw the latest batch of Midleton hurlers begin their playing careers.
Midleton Community Centre was the venue as this years Junior Infants donned their helmets and came out swinging.
There will be over 40 boys attending training this year and they'll be led by Kevin McSweeney. Any parents who wish to help out with the team can talk to Kevin at training sessions.
There will be no training next Saturday 10th November as the Community Centre will be used as a polling centre for the childrens referendum. Training will recommence on Saturday 17th November.
Many thanks to all who helped out and the club would like to welcome all the boys and their parents to Midleton GAA Club.

Training
With the nights closing in and the main pitch closing for the winter team training venues and times will be changing. Keep an eye on the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. Team managers will update teams by text when changes are due. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Christmas Raffle Tickets
Tickets for this year’s Christmas Raffle are now on sale. Some will be given to boys at training sessions and we would encourage them to sell these in their local area.
Anyone looking for tickets can get them from the club bar or from juvenile team managers.
Many thanks to our prize sponsors again this year who have again come up trumps for the club.

Club Gear
With Christmas fast approaching, club playing and leisure wear or vouchers can be purchased for presents. Just contact any of the team selectors or you can enquire through the club website www.midletongaa.com
