Midleton GAA news 9th July 2012

09 July, 2012

Red Fm Senior Hurling League
Midleton 2-05 Newtownshandrum 1-16
Our Senior Hurlers made the long trip to Newtwnshandrum on Sunday evening last to face the hosts in a re arranged Senior Hurling League game. We travelled with a much weakened squad and went down to an eight point defeat. The conditions were wet and miserable and the home side showed the far greater intent on the night. Our attack featured only one of our six starting championship players and we struggled for scores throughout. We have now played eleven of our fifteen Leqague games and lie in fifth place with twelve points. The top six make the playoffs so another couple of wins will probably be required to secure our place.
Cork Senior  Teams.
Congratulations to the Cork Senior Footballers on their comprehensive win in the Munster final at the weekend.
Well done to the Cork Senior hurlers who overcame Offaly at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in the qualifiers on Saturday evening last. The Cork hurlers now face Wexford in Thurles on Saturday afternoon at 5pm with a quarter final place at stake.

Juvenile Notes

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
Things were quiet during the last week due to the poor weather we experienced.
One thing that did go ahead however was our Cúl Camp which was once again a great success. Well over a hundred children participated and hard as it tried even the rain couldn’t keep them away. Many thanks to the coaches who helped make the week so enjoyable for the kids. Many thanks also to Conor Lehane who this year was ambassador for the Cúl Camps in Cork. The whole show was arranged and managed by Jim O’Sullivan who once again was ably assisted by Mary Quinn. Many thanks to both and to all others who volunteered during the week. Training
Training continues during the summer for all juvenile groups. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. Team managers will update teams by text if there are changes. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open each Saturday morning in the clubhouse.

Juvenile Golf Classic
The Midleton Juvenile GAA Golf Classic will take place once again this year. Following on from the great success of last year we hope we will receive strong support again in 2012. The dates have been confirmed as Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of July. The competition will once again take place in East Cork Golf Club.
