Midleton GAA News 30th April

30 April, 2012

Junior Football Championship
Midleton 1-10 Fr. O’Neill’s 0-15
Our Junior A footballers made their exit from this year’s championship when we went down to Fr. O’Neill’s after extra time on Saturday afternoon last. In our third outing after wins over Lisgoold and Carrigtwohill their was a place in the semi final at stake. After a well matched first half the teams could not be separated on 0-05 each.  Midleton were to the for for much of the second half and with ten minutes left we held a four point lead. Fr. O’Neills rallied strongly in the final period of the game and a couple of late points ensured the game went to extra time.Again we made a solid start but our opponents rallied and in the end held out for a two point win.

Senior Hurling League
Midleton 4-22 Blackrock 4-10
Our Senior Hurlers were back in Conroy Cup Senior hurling League action on Tuesday last when they travelled to Church Road to face Blackrock. After conceding a goal in the first minute Midleton settled down to play some of their best hurling of the year I the first half. Goals from Paul Haughney and Luke O’Farrell in addition to some excellent point taking saw us in a commanding 2-12 to 1-06 half time lead. It was most impressive thirty minutes of the year to date and it was good to see the mentors picking from a full squad. The second half saw Midleton cruise to a comfortable win. Luke O’Farrell added two more goals  and there were a lot of good performances on the night. In the end we had twelve points to sare. After the disappointing performances against Ballymartle and Courcey Rovers this was a welcome return to form.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-13
We played Erins Own in the main pitch on Tuesday 24th of April at 7pm.It was our first time playing on the pitch at under 13 and the team were thrilled to get a chance to display their talents. On a night when 18 players were available we put out our strongest team yet in the league. We opened brightly but took awhile to register our first score due to a wet pitch and ball.
We combined well as a team with Eoin Mitchell and Evan o Meara again having a very good game. Andrew Nestor had his best game ever in a Midleton Jersey and with good supply to our forwards it was inevitable that our forwards would start scoring. Led by Sean o Leary Hayes (2-1) Cathal Gunning and Harry Wall both contributed 4 points from play with Harry also scoring a goal. Cormac Higgins also found the net as Midleton ran out 5-10 to 3-2 winners. Everyone got a game and I was surprised how upset some of the boys were on being substituted.
This augurs well for the future and well done to all the players.
A special mention to the ref who was very fair and strict on discipline which is important for us to learn as we progress.

Fe-12
Fe 12 Hurling v Blackrock played on Saturday 28th we played two very good Blackrock teams and shared the honours one game apiece the scores were Midleton 1 3.2 v Blackrock 1 2.6 and   Midleton 2  6.06 v Blackrock 2  4.00. It was good to see a better first touch from all players and a great improvement in attitude. Both games our backs held firm with tight marking and good use of the sliotar. We had 23 players and a special thanks to Ethan from the under 11s for falling in and playing well. Some good performances from Ross O’Regan, Kian Farmer Cian Murray, Fergus Wade, Tommy O’Connell Ross Shanahan and Ciaràn Evans

Training
Training is back in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.
