Clonmult Memorial Park 50th Anniversary & Official Opening of Redevelopment

Last Saturday saw the Official Opening of Phase 1 of our Re Development of Clonmult Memorial Park as well as commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the official opening of Clonmult Memorial Park in April 1962. As well as an open invitation to all Club Members we had a number of invited guests. A number of the surviving members of the Cork Senior hurling team who participated in the intercounty challenge against Limerick which marked the opening 50 years ago were present including our own Paddy Fitzgerald. They were all looking well and as Club President Monsignor Eamon Gould commented on the day the years had been kind to them. Also in attendance were representatives of the Cork County Board and the East Board. The honour of cutting the opening tape fell to East Cork Board President and long serving Midleton Officer John Hennessy. Club President Monsignor Gould concelebrated Mass with Club Vice President Canon Colman Donovan.
Later on in the afternoon Cork Fe 21 hurlers played a challenge game against their Waterford counterparts. There was lots of local involvement with the Cork team . Ger Fitzgerald is team Manager and Martin Mc Sweeney is team trainer. Patrick O’Mahony, Finnbarr O’Mahony, Paul Haughney and Killian Burke were all involved in the Cork squad on the day.
A big thank you to all who lent a hand from early morning on Saturday and throughout the day to have the Club in pristine condition and to ensure that all parts of the celebrations went off smoothly.

Junior Football League
Midleton 2-06 Castlemartyr 1-09
A top of the table clash is how last Friday night’s match April 13th between Midleton and Castlemartyr could have been billed. Midleton currently lie on top of the table with Castlemartyr  2 points behind but with a game less played.  Ground conditions were a bit slippery for the game. This was a pulsating contest throughout as first one team would take control and clock up some scores but the other team would wrestle control back and they would find their scoring range. Midway through the second half Midleton raced into a 4 point lead and it looked for a moment as if they might gain the upper-hand. But this alternating contest was again through to form as Castlemartyr came back to grab an equalizer with  the very last kick of the game. Final Score Midleton 2-6, Castlemartyr 1-9.
Midleton Team: O’Keeffe, O’Sullivan, Collins, Ferriter, Curtin, O’Farrell, Hennessey, Ryan, Dowling, D O’Brien, Barry, Coughlin, W O’Brien, Behan, Mulcahy.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-11
Thursday 12th was a day of anticipation for our Fe 11 hurlers. After a series of football games the lads were really looking forward to getting back to their hurling and they really showed this in the Midleton CBS. The opposition was Nemo Rangers and although our Fe11 team was short a good few players we were helped out by some Fe10's on the night.
Our lads really got stuck in to the match from the start and were on top from very early on. The Nemo lads however kept battling on and made it hard for us to the end.
There were some signs of rustiness on both sides but this is probably due to it being the first game of the year.
Well done to all those who played. Also thanks to the Fe 10 players who helped our and to the fine refereeing performance of Ciaran Goldspring.
Training starts back on the main field this Saturday 14th from 9.45am to 11am.

Fe-9
Midleton FE 9s traveled to Douglas last Saturday morning April 14th to play the home team in a series of football matches. A few Midleton players didn’t travel due to other commitments so minus these players there was a great turnout of twenty players. The panel was split in two and each team played three matches. These players are made of stern stuff and at times it was ‘backs to the wall’ stuff but they stuck to their task manfully. It was the best Gaelic Football session this panel have had in awhile and it should stand to them as they mature as a team.
Thanks to all of the parents, supporters and team coaches who helped with the traveling arrangements.

 Training
Training is back in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
The dates are out for this year’s Cúl Camp. The camp will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of July. Boys from Junior Infants up are welcome to attend. Further details will be available nearer the time for registration.

Juvenile Golf Classic
The Midleton Juvenile GAA Golf Classic will take place once again this year. Following on from the great success of last year we hope we will receive strong support again in 2012. The dates have been confirmed as Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of July. The competition will once again take place in East Cork Golf Club.
Once again the main sponsor will be Blackwater Motors Cork, Fermoy and Skibereen.
More details of the Classic will follow in the coming weeks.
