Midleton GAA 26th March 2012

26 March, 2012

Scrap Saturday
A word of thanks to all those who kindly donated to our Scrap Metal collection this past weekend. It was a great success. Thanks also to all our Members who gave of their time on Saturday and Sunday to ensure that it was a success. It was much appreciated. A special word of thanks to all at AMAC Farm Supplies at Townspark who facilitated us over the couple of days.

Senior Hurling
Our Senior Hurlers were in action over the weekend when we hosted O’Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny in challenge game on Sunday morning. Peter Dowling who has joined us this season transferred to us from O’Loughlin Gaels.

Fe 21 A Football Championship
Midleton 0-02 Youghal 4-11
Our Fe 21 A footballers were in action on Wednesday night last when they sought to defend their East Cork title from last year when they travelled to Youghal to play the hosts. It proved to be a very disappointing exit from this years competition for us as we were never in the game as we went down to a heavy defeat. We were short of a number of players due to injury but their availability would not have bridged the gulf in scores on the night.
Overall a chastening experience for all involved.

Junior Football League
Midleton 2-09 Ballinacurra 1-06
On Monday 20th March Midleton’s Gaelic Football Junior team played Ballinacurra in our fifth match of the East Cork Junior League. It was the first football match of the year in Clonmult Memorial Park. Firstly, recognition has to be given to the outstanding new dressing-rooms and gym that had been opened only two days before. Both panels were full of praise for the new facilities which could make Clonmult Park a highly sought after location for GAA matches.
As for the football match, all players gave a wholehearted display of football over the hour. At half time Midleton led on a score of 1-5 to 1-1. Both sides had had their Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde moments during the first half; sometimes taking great scores and then at other times squandering good opportunities. Midleton got the upper hand at the start of the second half and never relinquished it for the rest of the game. The final score was Midleton 2-9 Ballinacurra 1-6.

Junior Football Championship
Our Junior A Footballers start their championship campaign on Sunday next when we travel to Rathcormac to face neighbours Lisgoold with a 2pm throw in.. Lisgoold reached the East Cork Final last year so our lads are aware of the challenge that lies ahead. Our League form has been mixed with a three wins and two losses from our five games to date. If all those eligible are free from injury the selectors will have a strong hand at their disposal but given the limited preparations the selectors will be hoping they can get a performance from the lads on the day.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-12
Midleton Fe 12's first Football league game of the season was away to Blarney with an early kick off of 5.30 we travelled with good numbers and only a few missing due to injuries. The 2 matches were played in good spirits and manner we played a nice brand of football and could have won both games if we had our scoring boots on in both games. There was a number of stong performances from players and a good improvement from last year, There was a number of areas we can improve but for a first game there was plenty to priase the boys for we look forward to our next matches .
There was a good number of the boys playing there first leagues games for us, and we look forward to many more from them and they certianly strengthen our squad.
Thanks to all the parents for there help with the early start.
Mark Daly, Dylan Deehan, Ciaran Evans, Kian Farmer, Niall Higgins, Cormac Hill,Griffin Hurley, Ronan Lynch, , Ryan O’Riordan, Cormac O’Brien, Adam O’Connell, Tommy O’Connell, Ross O’Regan, Colin Oedegbe, Babatunde Olotu Jubril, Coleman Quinn,David Scanlon, Ross Shanahan, Jake Shannahan, Fergus Wade, Scott Wolohan, Alan Horgan,Conor O,Leary,Cian Murray and Evan Rowland

Fe-11
On Monday the 19th our FE11 footballers headed for Blarney for our third game in the rebel og league. We travelled to Blarney knowing that this would be a hard game with Blarney having won all matches to date.On the day we had 19 players and Blarney had 18 so we played two 9aside games.Midleton black got off to the worst possible start losing one of our leaders Christian murphy to a wrist injury after a minute into the game, the other players stepped up in Christians absense and were leading at half time.Blarney came back into it in the second half and the game ended all square.Midleton white were up against a strong Blarney team but got to grips with them as the game went on but fell short at the final whistle. Both teams did very well on the day and are improving quickly with every outing.Well done to Blarney and we look forward to to playing them in the hurling league. We wish Christian a speedy and successful recovery from his injury.Midleton Black Christian Murphy,Gary Carroll,Daithi Magan,Tadgh Healy,Alex Quirke,Shane Connor,James Gillespie,Paul Connaughton,Ethan Harkin Daly,Fionn O Connell.Midleton White Daniel Cagney,Adam Meade,Trevor Shine,Samuel Quirke,Aaron Mulcahy,Mark Griffan,Eabhan De Barra,JP O Callaghan,Darragh Desmond.Next game Ballincollig.
Midleton's Fe 11 boys stayed at home on Saturday 24th when they hosted Ballincollig in the Rebel Óg football league. We split the lads into two even teams and played two games, each having 20 mins per side.
Midleton were outsized and were up against a team who play far more football than our lads. That said our lads put up a great show and made great effort despite their task.
We will need to work on some ball handling skills and again we ask parents to encourage the lads to practice at home. All of which will help to improving the skill levels.
Well done to all.

Easter GAA Camp
For the first time, Midleton GAA juvenile section will be running an Easter GAA Camp.
The camp will take place on the 4th and 5th of April this year. Boys from Junior Infants upwards will be welcome. The cost of the event is €10 per first boy and €5 for each subsequent brother. If you are interested in your child attending please text Cormac Quirke at 086-0783365

Training
For all training times please check the juvenile team page on the club website www.midletongaa.ie . We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
The dates are out for this year’s Cúl Camp. The camp will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of July. Boys from Junior Infants up are welcome to attend. Further details will be available nearer the time for registration.

Juvenile Golf Classic

Once again the main sponsor will be Blackwater Motors Cork, Fermoy and Skibereen.
