80 Good years

18 May, 2011

Neally Horgan, a man of many stories and many years of service to Midleton GAA club celebrated his 80th Birthday last week. The photo below shows Neilie and his grand children celebrating with a cake any club member would be proud of. Some work went into the Midleton GAA crest and well played to the decorator.
Neally spent "most" of his playing career with Midleton but had a brief holiday up the road. However, he returned to the home where his heart lay - Midleton.
Frank Murphy (hurley maker) tells a story of a guy called Neally from Midleton who worked in a bank. It seems for many years Frank would get a large annual order for Juvenile hurleys. The hurleys would arrive in the club without any ceremony or without any clue as to where they came from. Frank of course knew but was sworn to secrecy.
It was only on talking to Neally that the full story came out. It seems that the man himself saved the money earned from a part time job and once a year bought whatever number of hurleys he could with the proceeds.
We all hear stories of good deeds done by people and this one rates well up there. A good thing done quietly to help develop the club he loves.
So, not just goals he could save then.
Many thanks Neally and once again Happy Birthday.
