St Patrick's Day Festival - Lá le Pádraig Féile

As part of the ongoing Fundraising effort for the New Facilities at Park South, Midleton GAA are organising a St. Patrick’s Day Family Festival at the GAA Club. The festivities will start at noon and Carousel, Face Painting, Tug o' War (some teams already in training), live music, ‘Great Crane Ball Drop’ plus loads more. This promises to be a great day.

The Crane Ball Drop is an important fundraiser for the new development. With the imminent seeding of 2 pitches and ground works due to commence on the ‘top pitch’ we need to maintain momentum to put the facilities in place for the current and future generations. With attractive prizes of 1st-€3,000, 2nd-€2,000, 3rd-€1,000 and a modest ticket price of €10 we would expect the fundraiser to be well supported.

2 things we ask of each player/family. We ask, if at all possible, for 2 tickets to be purchased by each player/family. Additionally, we would also ask for parents/players to help sell additional tickets. The nature of the good cause and prize fund should make this viable. Each player will be issued with 2 tickets. If a family receives more and are unable to sell, they should be handed back asap.

Club members will be contacted to help and support the efforts but tickets are also available from members of the fundraising committee that include Michael Carroll 086 8362218 (Juvenile), Mairead Beausang 087 2412010 (Ladies Football), Ingrid O’Riordan 087 6374748 (Camogie), Tracy Saunderson 087 6625544 (GAA), Michael O’Connell 087 260 6093 (Chairperson Fundraising Committee).

Many thanks for your ongoing help in our fundraising efforts.

Camogie

Training has re-commenced for a lot of our groups. Our U11 group  resumed on  Tuesday, Feb 18th from 8-9pm on Midleton College hockey pitch. The girls were glad to get back out after our Christmas break.

Our U16 ladies are  going strong now since mid-January. They finished off last Wednesday’s session with a tug of war challenge between themselves in preparation for St Patricks Day festival in the club. Watch out lads these girls might leave ye for dust yet!

Following on from a request for past photos of players from Hurling Football and Camogie We received a fantastic photo from a follower of our page complete with names of each of the players, thank you Caroline! This was the last photo taken in 1993 of Midleton Camogie Club before sadly it ceased to exist. If anyone has more of these photos please forward them into our social media pages on Facebook,Twitter and Instagram and we’ll be happy to post them on our pages and include them in club notes.

After a long deserved break our U8/9 girls started back training on Friday night last ,well done girls!

Our U12s started back the season with a great hour’s training. Additionally, on Friday night, the girls  were given a fantastic session with Cork Minor Camogie Coach Michael Boland. They all really enjoyed the session and thanks to Michael for giving us his time. Lots of skills on show great work girls!

For the first year ever Midleton Camogie can field a Junior Team so they were training hard over the weekend as well and are looking forward to the season ahead! Unfortunately due to all the storms recently training was called off for a lot of our groups but hopefully the weather will be in our side from now on so the ladies can put it lots of hard work ahead of the upcoming competition’s. As always you can follow Midleton Camogie on Facebook and Twitter for Camogie news and updates on training and upcoming matches.

Juvenile

Benchmark 2020 – Gold Award Certification
We mentioned last week that we had received Gold Award Certification from Cork’s Rebel Óg in recognition of the standards that we have set and continue to deliver at Juvenile level. A lot of work has been done down through the years in Midleton to set and maintain such high these standards. Bualadh bos  to all concerned. Pictured below is Midleton Juvenile Secretary Michael Carroll receiving the award from Cork Coaching Officer, Ronan Dwane.

45 Drive

Junior C player Dave O’Brien steps up to senior status in epic final.
Veteran hurler Dave O’Brien (who like his father refuses to retire until he reaches a half century ) stepped into senior status last Friday in an epic 45 final. Partnered by loyal supporter John Barton this pair came from four tricks down to win by one in a dramatic full spirited victory.

Bingo’s charmer John Curtin was also in great form on his way to victory with regular Kitty Griffin . John had the luxury of being able to beat his own partner for one trick and still came out on top.
Castlemartyr’s Jer Beausang was again in fine form winning a great final with Bingo player Dinah O’Donovan.

Results: 1) John Curtin /Kitty Griffin 2) Dave O’Brien/John Barton 3) Jer Beausang/Dinah O’Donovan

Cards continue this Friday February 28th. All Welcome

Condolences

The club would like to pass on our condolences to the Shanahan family on the sad passing during the past week of John Shanahan. John’s sons played with the club at underage level with John himself participating in our Tops of the Town competition for many years.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
