Fé14

On Bank Holiday Monday our Fe14 were out against their old foes Douglas for the third year in a row. These two sides have met in the final with Douglas taking the first game and the magpies successful last year. A large crowd of supporters had showed up to support these wonderful bunch of lads. Midleton had home advantage and started sprightly with a well taken point from Conor Williams however Douglas were well fired up for the game and scored the next five points without a reply. Zach Smith was next to score from a free this was followed up by a well taken point from play from Tadgh Bohane. The home side were given a lifeline when half forward Thomas O Connor caught a lovely ball and rattled the back of the Douglas net. This should have set up the pies for a great finish to the first half however this was not the case. Douglas came straight back up the field and nullified Midleton’s goal with a goal and two points of their own. Halftime score read Douglas 1-8 to Midleton 1-3. A stern talking at halftime saw our lads come out fighting in the second half the halfback line of Alex Howard Sean Cronin and Evan Mcgrath began to get the upper hand. Tadgh Bohane and Zach Smith struck two points from frees. Oscar Brennan Tiernan o Connell and Cormac Ryan were winning good ball around the square. Cian Lambe was fouled on the 21 yard line Zach took the free and sent a rocket to the back of the net. Midleton were right back in the game. Douglas kept chipping away at the score board with three points just to nudge back in front. Daniel Garde was having an excellent game between the sticks with aherne, Higgins, and Collins keeping the douglas full forward line at bay. The referee made some dubious calls which very much vexed the midleton supporters. Zach scored two more midleton frees just to leave one between the sides. Midleton fought like their lives depended on it however it wasn’t to be their day  with them been just pipped  at the final whistle. Final score Midleton 2-7 Douglas 1-12. This has been a fantastic year for our lads and it was a pity to go out on a loss. The mentors are super proud of what this great bunch of lads have achieved. Things are looking very positive for the underage structure in the club with some great results from the Fe12s upwards. The mentors would like to thank all parents and supporters on the day panel as follows Daniel Garde, Darragh Higgins, Adam Collins, Sean Cronin, Darragh Aherne, Evan Mcgrath, Alex Howard, Cian Lambe, Zach Smith, Oscar Brennan, Tadgh Bohane, Thomas O Connor, Samuel Morrissey, Eoin Higgins, Conor Williams, Larry Ward, Cormac Ryan, Tiernan O Connell, Cathraigh Cronin Cormac MacAongasa.

Safeguarding 1 & Garda vetting

Safeguarding 1 workshops are a mandatory requirement for coaches in all codes. Any new coaches within the club will need to participate in this three hour workshop before commencing in their role. This workshop looks at current legislation and good practice in relation to working with children and applies to anyone who has a player on their team who is under 18 years of age. The Safeguarding 1 certificate is valid for three years. After three years coaches must do an online refresher (approx 1 hour in duration) which was launched on 19th October 2019. This refresher is now available for anyone who has completed a safeguarding workshop since 2016. Anyone who completed a workshop prior to 2016 is required to participate in a face to face workshop to continue coaching in the new season. To access the online refresher course please complete the following steps;

Garda Vetting

This is an ongoing procedure with a number of new coaches currently going through the process for the new season. All our club members working with underage players should be vetted and as per the AGM notes 2018 the old paper vetting system is no longer acceptable. Vetting is valid for 5 years and should then be renewed. You will be contacted by the club to remind you about renewal and we would appreciate a prompt response please. It is important that we are fully compliant at all times with regard to mandatory requirements.

Garda vetting promotes best practice in the recruitment and selection of persons to work with children in the GAA. (Vetting legislation - The National Vetting Bureau, Children & Vulnerable Persons Act 2012-2016
