Midleton  3-4  Glanmire 5 – 10 (Minor Championship - 27/07/2015)
Midleton minors, minus a number of their older players, put up a very spirited performance against a strong Glanmire side.  Despite playing against the wind, Glanmire got the ideal start with a goal in the first minute. Midleton got more into the game and a good Claire O’Mahony point after 6 mins settled the early nerves.  Glanmire kicked a good point before Molly Beausang stitched a fine goal in the 11th minute to ensure Midleton were very much in the game.  Claudia Kearney was marshalling the edge of the square and getting good support from Robyn Scanlon and Rhea Buckley. Glanmire kicked two more points before Michaela McCann slotted over a beauty following good work out the field by Charley Moore & Ciara O’Doherty.  Meg O’Regan was a strong force in goals catching a lot of ball and getting good distance on her clearances and kick outs. An unfortunate break of a ball resulted in Glanmire creating an overlap and scoring a goal on the stroke of half time, leaving the score Glanmire 2-4 Midleton 1-2.
As in the first half Glanmire started very well in the second half and stretched their lead scoring 2-3 in the first 12 minutes of the half before Roisin O’Callaghan steadied the ship and finished off a 45m run with a wonderful point. With Deirdre Corcoran also winning the dual on her wing and combining with Aoife Madden, Midleton half back line were on top and started to create openings pushing forward to create overlaps for their fowards.  Laura O’Leary pounced onto a through ball and flicked to the net from close range to ensure Midleton still had a chance.  However, by throwing so much into attack Midleton were exposed to the overlap and conceded a further 1-1 before the hard working captain, Niamh O’Farrell, got highest to fist the ball to the Glanmire net.  Lisa Ahern and Kari McEvoy won a lot of ball in defence and with Dionne Carroll making some good interceptions  Midleton were not going to go down without a fight.  With Midleton tiring, Glanmire scored a further two points before Claire O’Mahony received a short free and shot narrowly over from the 14m line to leave the final score Glanmire 5-10 to Midleton 3-4. On the night Glanmire were fully deserving of their victory.  Despite the loss there were many positives.  In particular, a number of the younger players are proving that they are very comfortable at this level and will be challenging for starting positions in the junior team in the not too distant future.
The panel on the night was Megan O’Regan, Rhea Buckley, Claudia Kearney, Robyn Scanlon, Roisin O’Callaghan, Aoife Madden, Deirdre Corcoran, Charlie Moore, Niamh O’Farrell (C), Ciara O’Doherty, Michaela McCann, Claire O’Mahony, Dionne Carroll, Lisa Ahern, Molly Beausang, Laura O’Leary, Kari McEvoy.
