Wednesday 01 Sep 2010 Fe 13 - A Hurling Championship

Sarsfields (6-14) vs Midleton GAA (6-06)

Cobh, 18:30PM

On Wednesday evening Sept 1st our U-12 A hurling squad travelled to Cobh to take on Sarsfields in the East Cork A grade hurling final. On a perfect night for hurling our lads unfortunately never got out of the blocks from the throw in and Sars dominated the first half completely and while we were unlucky not to bag a few goals in the first half when a number of goal bound shots went narrowly wide or were well saved by the Sars goalkeeper and fullback Sars never struggled to record scores and hit only 2 wides in the entire half to go in leading by 4-11 to 0-3 at halftime. The disappointment amongst our lads was very evident at halftime but they regrouped and determined to prove they could play better than they had in the first half they set about trying to reduce the deficit by as much as possible. In a tremendous 2nd half performance which saw our lads up their game considerably they outscored Sars by 6-3 to 2-3 and while a number of other chances were either missed our saved well again by the Sars defence the Sars forward line showed again how efficient they were on the night by recording only 2 wides again. At the final whistle our lads had reduced the half-time deficit of 20pts to 8pts and while their disappointment was again clear for all to see they can take pride in their 2nd half performance against an excellent Sars side who deserved their win on the night and now go forward to contest the county championship where it will be very hard to see anyone stopping their progress to the title. Our boys on the other hand are felt to reflect on and rue the very poor start made and when we return to training in the future we will be looking at ways to rectify this slow start and prevent a reoccurrence in the years ahead. Well done again to all involved on the night and in the previous challenge and league matches leading up this Final and also best wishes to Sars in their efforts to add the County titles to their East Cork one.
Our Panel on the night was: Kevin Mulcahy (Capt) (0-1), Eoin Moloney, John Dwyer, Padraig O'Brien, Christopher Shanahan, Sean O'Leary, Ryan McConville, Jordan Roche, Christian Daly, Garan Manley (4-1), David Mulcahy (0-4), Ryan o'Reagan, Liam Franklin, Christopher Power (2-0), Tommy O'Connell, Conor Evans, Conor O'Neill, Adam Daly, Dion O'Neill-Hill, Dylan Cahalane, Kelvin Hickey, Kevin Daly, PJ Fitzgearld, Ronan O'Donovan, Sean O;Meara, Shane O'Brien, Temitayo Abdullah.
